Morning, bike was completely dead this morning. Didn't have a chance to check anything as I had to jump in the car and get to work. I tried moving the key nearer the hands free unit, no joy. Any ideas? Would a dead key battery cause this? Thanks.
First thing I'd do is whip the seat off and do a voltage check on the battery. If you have 13V + I'd look at the right hand switch gear and give it a squirt of WD40 or a proprietary water dispersant. To eliminate the remote, try entering your 4 digit code. If you still get nothing talk to your dealer. Andy
Thanks for the help. Will check pin tomorrow. Never used that before. Would that still work if the dash was completely dead?
It happened to me twice. I started it using the pin. When I had time to spare I used the red key placing it close to the right panel next to the LCD. It started so no bike battery issues. It was the battery of the key. I checked the key's battery voltage and it was ok. The seating of the battery caused the trouble. * It would be wise to have a spare key battery in the tools.
Thanks. Will pick up some spares on the way home. Should I have had a warning if the key battery was low?
since battery voltage was ok there was no warning. The battery did not contact well so voltage was zero....
Ok it was just a dead key battery. I fitted a new one and all is well. Didn't have a CR2032, but had loads of CR2025 which seems to work fine. Just need to set a pin code. I've emailed the dealer as I don't know what they set it at.
The dealer should have got you to set a PIN code at the time you took delivery. Pretty remiss of them if they didn't. By the way, it's a good idea to start the bike using the PIN occasionally, maybe every six months. I once found the PIN had been lost and needed to be reset.
I got told P&H change it from the default on PDI to one of their defaults. You then change it from that bug at least it's never the default 0000 or last 4 digits of chassis number
The dealer I purchased my DVT from had changed the pin to a different code from the factory one and they were very clear when I collected that I needed to change it to my own code
My code came attached to a plastic strip attached to the spare red key. It is a totally random number
