Primarily the 1%, who have benefitted disproportionately, but if we throw ourselves completely in with the EU we will find ourselves marginalised with even less opportunity to correct that imbalance. England isn't a magic shield for anybody, but I firmly believe that the UK of GB and NI is greater than the sum of it's parts and really is better together outside of the EU and Scotland has an important part to play in that. FWIW I find the SNP representative on QT is the politician who usually speaks the most sense. If you agree that we already have an "EU noose" do you also agree that we would be better off outside of the EU and where would that leave the independent Scotland that you desire ? Do you want an "independent" Scotland within the EU or not ?
fecking home internet FWIW I find the SNP representative on QT is the politician who usually speaks the most sense. you know it, i know it along with most of the currant 50%+ who support it for the right reasons know it. yet we are told daily 20 times over by every media outlet going the exact opposite. and usually with a large slice of malice and false allegations thrown in with zero scrutiny of the opposition. it appears all our devolved ares are performing better than elsewhere. yet still not reported as such.(all that includes the BBC) if you are wondering why the skepticism up north. look to the MSM/BUM. trust me, i know what i sound like. :smileys:
Seeing as those "better performing" (?) devolved areas include... health education and training local government law, including most aspects of criminal and civil law, the prosecution system and the courts social work housing tourism and economic development some aspects of transport, including the Scottish road network, bus policy, and ports and harbours planning and the environment agriculture, forestry and fishing sport and the arts miscellaneous matters, such as compiling statistics and keeping public records ..it would seem we're not holding you back so much
we? are you westminster? did you squander £300,000000 of oil revenues?did you introduce the poll tax in Scotland? did you leave the middle east in taters?. did you hide the mcCrone report? did you introduce the bain principle? did you deindustrialize the west coast at a time of plenty? did you vote against every amendment in the Scotland bill?. who's talking about you? im not. v.strange thing to say. are you destabilizing the renewable market which hits disproportionately northern Britain. did you place a nuclear base 30mls from a major city? did you promise the earth after the indi reff then go back on pretty much every word? god the list is endless. but i know why you say it and i know what you read. no chip here with you or yours. simple fact dont ask dont get. :smileys:
i know. its all good. but it aint over till its over. if you guys are bitter with labour hence voting tory. you can only imagine the feeling up here. they ran everything from councils to mp's and until 8years ago holyrood.still run the councils but not after 2017 they are/where our first point of contact with westminster they suck. big time cocksuckers. hence westminster sucks too. tried liberals, tried torys, screwd by labour. no representation in westminster. until now. if any of that bunch say one thing, chances are the opposite would be better for us. being out of Europe and left to the mercy of that bunch is a truly terrifying thing.
Ditto, it's not personal. It's Westminster we have a gripe with, not the good people of England. Though, we do hope you will stop believing the MSM and start throwing out some of the idiots you have running the place. As Fin says. Europe is the lesser of two evils. The U.K. Out of Europe and running Scotland is absolutely terrifying. It should be terrifying for people in rUK too. Kiss goodbye to your workers rights, social chapter, etc. The only upside may be dodging TTIP but I don't trust the Tories not to sign up to that even if out of Europe.
Its not even Westminster either really is it? The EU is the lesser of two "evils" - a telling word. The EU then is a legal force field, a knight in bureaucratic armour protecting Scotland from English Toryism. That's what its really all about. This is good old fashioned partisan, tribal loathing. You don't mind the good people of England as long as, in essence, they stop being English, reassess their opinions, even abandon their reading matter and adopt such political beliefs as meet with your approval.. Oh dear, oh dear..
All good points. I've corrected some of the spelling in the above post as it was misleading and wrong-headed in its original form.
It is a bit off the wall. But ... If you substitute the unquantified generalities that Gimlet refers to, and replace them with a specific issue, it makes finm's POV make more sense than Gimlet is making out. I used cannibalism as a fairly universally undesirable activity so that folks would not get bogged down with value judgements whilst considering the point I was trying to make. I know, I've clarified nothing here. Sorry. It's a curse. Oh, apologies to any cannibals here on the forums, I don't mean to oppress you guys.
personally i think is total bolox. no one is telling you what to read. just to stop repeating the bull. actually keep repeating it, its good for a giggle, not much else to be honest. scotland partisan? :Hilarious:. we have given every party a go, they where all bollox. most of all labour. (possibly because we expected better from them) i dare say the last 8years have been a bit of headache for westminster the truth will always out. a different line of questioning topped up with the thirty year rule. for somebody that doesn't give a you know what, you always have plenty to say?. strange. seeing as we will be ruled by tories for the next god knows how long, if out of europe do i think the tory's will protect workers rights? nope will they protect human rights? nope will they invest the so called money saved in infrastructure to the outer regions nope. will they promote and secure over seas investment for the lost forever and non compliant regions? nope. will they be able to stop immigration legal or otherwise? nope will they be able to counter terrorism? nope. do i think they will alienate us from the remainder of Europe deffo. why? because that's how Europe works according to the separatists/britnats. not fear, reality. :smileys:

The U.K. Out of Europe and running Scotland is absolutely terrifying. It should be terrifying for people in rUK too. KThe only upside may be dodging TTIP but I don't trust the Tories not to sign up to that even if out of Europe. Not at all. I think that England has structural problems with its political system which is designed to preserve the status quo and deny people a wider choice. Preservation of the establishment is the name of the game. You mention Tories. How many people, Tory voters or not approve of their plans on Privatising the health service? Changing the law to allow big business to over rule local planning departments to allow fracking? This status quo is supported by a handful of media moguls who have in interest in its preservation. It's only the media that can shine a spotlight on the above, but they are not doing it Even though the above is happening. Media is key to the development of a broader spectrum of political opinion.l and holding those currently in power to account. They are not doing that. So you can mock my suggesting that you look elsewhere for your news if you wish, but I didn't tell you where to look for news. I didn't list websites I use and say "read these". I said you should look beyond the MSM. I read today that the Labour Party is going to support the position of the Lib Dems, The Greens and the SNP that general elections should be fought through a meaningful system of PR. The SNP will lose out badly with PR yet they support it. I live in London, so I have a vested interest in all things English. If I didn't like it or English people (my partner is English) I wouldnt live there, so I reject your point about my views on England entirely.
Have these made the MSM? Mhairi Black MP | Facebook Leaked letter shows government plans to force fracking on communities | Friends of the Earth The latter could well see peoples homes become worthless.
The fracking has been reported widely, yes. That's Cameron all over I'm afraid. He really is the heir to Blair. If he thinks its a good idea and will "drive Britain's recovery" (for whom - the bit of Britain he went to school with?) it gets forced on the country. Look at HS2. And for that matter, the EU referendum. He's decided which result would be "good for Britain" so he'll try to manipulate that outcome by fair means or foul. I'm actually in favour of of fracking in concept but I'm also in favour of local democracy and selling ideas through weight of argument, not central government enforcement. Let people decide for themselves.
Properly designed and executed hydraulic fracturing does not represent a threat to anything or anyone. Most of the objections are hysteria and froth from the ignorant and ill informed.
The news coverage of the latest negotiations are all about benefits, a side issue IMHO, with little or nothing about what really matters, the future of the sovereignty of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. How fucking disappointing, but not really surprising.
