1200 Led High Beams

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Stonesie, Dec 17, 2015.

  1. Today I fitted a set of These to the Multi, I was a little disappointed with the standard halogens as they were quite low and the LED dipped beams made them look yellow, hopefully these will lift it a bit and add more light at longer range.

Fitting is really easy with these, I cant imagine the older type with the fan on the back fitting in with the forks and a fan is a dodgy idea for this kind of thing anyway. (a small cheap open fan would probably not last long if the bike was used in the wet)
You just need the inner side panels off and then swap them over, tuck the little ballasts under the sides and then feather the cooling braid and tuck it out of the way infront of the subframe, if they were on permanently then they would need to be more spread out but for high beam they should be ok like that, re-fit the panels and job's a good un.

I'm off to the local bike night soon so will get a chance to test them at night, judging from the reflection in the window of the house over the road they will work very well.

  2. I'm really interested in those. Let me know of your results (with pictures if possible). I'd love to hear on pattern (do they cover the road or are they shining all over the place) and the longevity as well.

  3. Just got in and it was hard to get a steady shot with a 1 second exposure on a running bike but here we go...

What these pictures do not show is that there is much more sideways light too, great for twisty country lanes when there's nothing coming.

I could have done with a longer exposure to make it look more realistic but would need a tripod and a proper camera... Not as good as the car's Bi-Xenons + 55w halogens but a very good improvement over standard.

Reporting on longevity will take a while, you need a pair of H11's

  4. Thanks a lot. About longevity, I was expecting a post in two years' time :p

  5. I tried an H4 version of one of these LEDs on my Scrambler. The light output was good but the dip pattern was crap and would fail an MoT, nor could I fit the access cover back onto the headlight. So I decided to revert back to the halogen. I might try a pair of H11's for the Multis main beam though.

  6. I am thinking about the idea of using these as my full beam bulb. How do you think they work now you have had a chance to use them a bit?

  7. I'm still really happy with them, they do put more light further down the road than the standard halogen bulbs and more to the sides. so on unlit country lanes I love them.

Only way to get proper car equivalent lighting in my opinion. Love mine now.

  9. Cheers.

  10. Yeah i agree, auxiliary lights are the next step up but only the Ducati ones look right to me without crash bars, and i dont have those so far, maybe in the future.

For now i think that i have made the best of the standard reflectors, i didnt want Hid as they dont give full light for a few seconds and dont like being flashed on and off... Based on experience with a car years ago, maybe the modern units are better...

  11. JH - which aux lights have you fitted?

  12. I went for effect, not looks. I got these. I'm sure the proper £200-300 jobbies look better but I can't be doing that right now. These don't look hideous and that out of place in my opinion. It's hardly a Panigale to begin with. They are seriously bright though. Got behind a fast lane hogger the other day. One flash and I've never seen a car move so quick. There could have been a tank in the middle lane and they'd have forced it out.

  13. Lol very ouch

  14. No 'ouch' intended, I have my reasons for not wanting the lights up there, mainly that that's where my arms go as I push my bike backwards up a ramp into the garage. I also want them within the bike's outline so they don't snag anything.

Mentioning extra lights here has got me thinking about it more and more so I have ordered some tonight, 18w 6 'Cree' led units as JH has used except mine are a single row so will mount vertically in the standard position....

Just got to figure out the wiring and switches now, there's some cheap options out there or I could use the oem kit... Will have a think about that

  15. At the end of the day, I can see rather than crawling along unlit country farm roads. I'd rather a working penis than a good looking floppy fella.

  16. Ok they showed up today, UK stock my ass, straight from China and only reasonably impressive... No pics but I did what few do with these things, dug out the cheap multimeter my cousin got me for Christmas and the good one I usually use.

  17. These are the Chinese 18/10W led's, powered by a dying old gell cell I found...

And lit up in my dads empire of clutter.

As I was not overly impressed the other day I ordered a more substantial competitor, which showed up yesterday.

Now to figure out mounting and powering the things... The little battery was down to about 9v (it's being thrown out) So I plugged it into the bike...

  18. Strange beam pattern, Two random sized and mis-aligned squares surrounded by dull yellow, looks just like the DVT stock high beam

  19. Those squares are the Cree diodes. I have seen their torches with a similar pattern. They are incredibly bright but if you spend a bit more in Cree stuff, you get a pattern that's not so focuses and are awesome. I love my Cree torch but the cheap Chinese lights I have light up the road about as good as the full beam on the corsa we drive. Happy with that

  20. Yes I thought the same but at more than a few inches from the lens they're a very intense and tight beam, when I get round to actually fitting them then I will see how they look out on the road.

To get the picture on my hand was not easy, it kept swamping out the camera as even the 'dull' bits were hard to look at.

Add implies that these are a 30° beam, HA! no chance... One day I will buy something online that is what it says it is in the add.
