For some time I've been posting about my 924cc motor build which has been complete for some weeks now. As I now have almost all the parts ready to build the bike I thought I'd start a new thread so as not to thread jack Pavey's original 749/924 conversion thread. Last night saw the end of an eight year romance. As I finished stripping old yella. To make way for the new and improved 924. (As yet unnamed) Old yella was a £1500. Accident damaged purchase late in 2007. And first ran at Rockingham in 2008. It's seen a few upgrades over the years. And I've learnt a lot about how to ride and set the bike up. So now we run a reasonable pace in the Quick group. However the mains failed and I've had the itch for another project. So the 924 was spawned. The motor and frame are now attached and the job of re prepping the carry over parts has begun. All my powder coating is back and I can get stuck in the build. I'll keep updating as I go. However I'm sure work will slow progress at some point as we ramp up to the start of the new season.
On the rear subframe you've cut the bip original by removing the top tube's on the rear section of the frame as well as the rear end section that the old bip seat unit fastened too. Is this so the mono seat unit seats better (lower) on the subframe and have you braced the remaining tubes that support the exhaust . I'm going to cutting my bip subframe to fit a mono seat but keeping the rear footpeg mounts so I can still mount my panniers and yours looks like what I had in mind re the removal of the top tubes of the frame
Yep that's exactly why I did it and also to lose weight. I haven't added any strengthening to support the silencer as the tube is more than man enough. I did this mod to my original 749 build many moons ago. Which I modded to run 916 style cans. However I removed the lower tube on that build.
A short update from last nights action. Front end in and swing arm and rocker mounted. Very handy to have a spare pushrods to support the swing arm whilst I service the rear shock.
Only a cheeky hour & 1/2 in the garage tonight. Mostly due to the steady increase in work load /-mad panic at work. As the first preseason test starts next week. So my cheap £20 hose set landed on my bench at work today. (I get all my eBay tatt delivered to work) And on the most part it's pretty good! A few hoses needed a slight trim. However the straight rad connecting hoses are a little small. Not to worry I'm sure I can source an alternative.
Looking good! Still loving the brave frame colour...are you sure it's just a trick of the light?? Bit like the blue dress saga! Nice though.
Loving the red wrinkle paint on the rocker covers - very Honda Type-R Also like the frame colour, and would love to see what it looks like in direct sunlight.
It's alive. After a few delays. Work, Crashing the Rs250, then more work. Oh and keeping Mrs Monkey happy. I managed to get some hardcore hours in on the 924. Mostly wiring and calibrating sensors (ish). Bleeding fluids etc etc. So the plan was to attempt a first fire up today and Holy Shit it's a runner!!! I put a safe map in the blue box of doom. Primed the fuel pump, span up some oil pressure. Flicked the switch and after a few cranks. We have life! Needless to say I'm quite pleased with myself. Let's hope it's not premature. More updates to follow. But my next goal is to finalise the body fit and get it off to paint.
It's the big day on Friday! We're off to the Rollers for a run-in session and a bit of mapping. :Nailbiting: Wish me luck! If it's a success I'll try and get some footage. And maybe some numbers.
A work mate. Who we will call Doctor Bell. Tells me don't expect big bhp increase. About 127. But the torque should be significantly higher than std 105Nm @8200. Based on his computer simulation model. I know Brad Black claims 138ish. So time will tell. Also depends on how close I can get the mapping in the time I have.
Sounds a pretty big number to me - rather more than a standard 999. My tweaked 999 only gives a fraction more than that. Maybe 'Doctor Bell' is used to really big numbers...
