  2. It used to be JHP Ducati Coventry, worth checking. Speak to John Burrows.

  3. Ok mate.. I've just written e mail to Pistral asking advice to what I can do with my 2valve.. Have tried uk engine builders but tbh getting a little fed up with many of them saying we will get back to you and never do despite chase ups...

    Thanks for that Muchly appreciated..

I've a project with my 2009 2 valve 796.. I've gone wrong way about it really but most of the paint is already complete with 796 logos etc, there lies the issue really, I've lightened all wherever I can but I'm stuck with the 2 valve engine, I would like a lot more power really, it's already on a de cat system with straight throu termis.. Yes it will eventually get mapped too, but none of the engine builders seem to know how to get the most out of a 796 engine, I've asked so many and none have come back, be it a big bore or HC pistons whatever... I adore all NCR Ducati but their engines are just silly money.. If need be I'd put a 1098 lump in here or a 916 etc but then the paints all wrong and I risk my bike becoming a bitser... A couple of pics to show what I mean, I've written to Pistral but no replies as yet.. image.jpeg

  8. Ok. Problems first.... The 796 motor isn't widely supported on the tuning front. You've found that out already. Other than bolt on parts, there's nothing off the shelf in terms of pistons, cams etc. The physics of the engine mean that it's already reaching it's potential and further gains will be fairly small but at high cost.
Pistal don't list a piston for the motor. They will make one-offs but they are expensive (relatively) and only in minimum runs of 4.
Again, cams are virtually non existent. You can play with timing but results would be small for the time invested and I'm guessing you're after more...
A remap is going to tie things up and give a little more umph to the finished package.
If you're thinking of power in terms of "If need be I'd put a 1098 lump in here or a 916 etc" then the 796 is never going to get anywhere close to your aspirations.
Solutions...... Only one really....put an 1100 EVO engine in it. Seriously, if you want that sort of hike in power then getting the paint redone and getting a good used 1100 motor is cheaper than a set of custom pistons. With a bit of work, you'll be getting into the realms of around 110 crank hp.
Personally, I wouldn't go the route of a water cooled engine. The chassis and the way it's packaged won't take well to the extra hardware needed...radiators, pipework. Airbox size etc. It's too small and tight.
If you're after that sort of power, then swap the bike or get another. It's the only realistic way you'll get to that sort of power potential.
I know from your posts how much work you've put into the bike. It's great, and you should take from what you've built for what it is. I'd possibly go as far as saying that more power, or a bigger engine might even detract from the 796 for what it's capable of. I have loads of fun on my 696 with 70 hp on tap just because that's all it has, rather than wanting more.

  9. Very good advice..
I'm agreeing, I think I will just have to make do with making her stunning to the eye and leave her be.. Then go all out on another project.. Has to be a 916 really..

  10. No worries. I think you're on the right track. Sometimes you just need a different view to straighten out the emotions :)
