  1. My mate has just told me his throttle cable on m600 monster has just snapped on him. He's not far from home (too far to push)but wondered if anyone has a clever idea to get bike home with arranging a van.

  2. Where has he broken down ? A

  3. If it's a carb bike, he could try using the choke lever to increase the revs enough to limp slowly home

  4. You can now get hourly van hire, making self-rescue a much safer and more affordale idea

The alternative is to know what you're doing and find a way to increase tickover, so the bike will pull a couple of gears, even if only first and second, at say 2,500-3,000 rpm and by judicious use of the clutch and brakes ride home slowly. If there is insufficient adjustment on the tickover screw, it may be possible to jam something in the cable operated cam, or lifter to give you the necessary revs - do not attempt this if you're unsure of what you're doing! You don't really want to be doing this sort of thing with lots of traffic about either. If your friend isn't a usually confident rider, a van is the answer.

    Good luck!

  5. My injection 999 has a fast idle lever, so even if it's an injection bike, you would be able to increase revs if you have one of those

  6. iirc, the tickover screw on these is right up between the carbs and needs a v. long screwdriver to access it from behind the front wheel

  7. Snapped way up near handle so we rigged a make shift handle. We were here a326 in Southampton. DSC_0127.JPG DSC_0129.JPG
