  3. Get a multimeter on your battery before you do anything. It may be a dud.

  4. Stu, if you have a digital voltmeter it is easy to check if your battery is on its way out. Leave the battery off the optimate for a few hours for its voltage to settle then check the voltage at the battery terminals before switching anything on. If it reads anything less than 12.7v your battery is probably on its way to the battery recyclers. A new fully charged battery like yours should give out 12.8v - 13.1v depending on the ambient temp and hold that voltage for many days after being fully charged. Do not rely on the dash Voltmeter as that does not allow you to check the off load voltage of the battery. Warmer ambient temp means slightly higher voltage. If you don't have a digital voltmeter its time to get one, Halfords have a few but get one with a continuity tester, usually around £15 and upwards.

If you don't already, try to get into the habit of starting the engine with the lights off - so many ignore this basic rule which could be the difference between a breakdown due to a discharged battery and a ride home

  5. Many thanks for input off to halfords:thumbsup:

  6. Hi Denzil, mines fluctuating between 12.66 & 12.73 so best look at a new one what you reckon?

  7. My 999 shows 11.9v then goes up to 12.2v with headight off but starts fine.
Check your connections at the battery. The cable can corrode where its crimped to the battery connector.

  13. A battery can show full charge but when put under load can fail, my son had one showing 12.8 and when under load ( pressing the starter) it dropped bellow 4 v.
