Old people & computers.

  1. A couple of years ago I bought my mum an old laptop for xmas & sorted out a broadband connection for her. She then proceeded not to use it in case she broke the internet. So I found out about a silver surfers course near her & she went on to it & learned how to send emails & stuff, but was still a bit wary.

Last xmas my brother upped the ante & bought her an iPad.

OMG. It's the IT equivalent of a little old lady suddenly acquiring a supercharged Bentley...

She just forwarded this to me, which my aunty in Switzerland sent her....

  2. Old people and technology should not mix. Fact.

ps The link doesn't work. Or it could be that I'm old :frown:

  3. it was a bad link, I had to do some fiddling....

  4. You're old. Works fine.

My mum got a Mac about 5 years ago (maybe less). She is now 85.
Seems to be able to email on it OK and even do some surfing and Skype.
In fact, she doesn't really need to do anything else. I'm pretty proud of her.

  5. Now that made I larff !

  6. My dad has a perfectly good computer, but avoids the net as he thinks that as soon as he connects to the www some Nigerian will rob him of his money!

  7. I've spent 1/2 night trying to explain what a kindle is and how it works to the O/H mum... She couldn't grasp the whole electronic books concept, thought you had to insert the book to read it lol.

  8. My old man keeps asking me if the whole of Youtube and the net is in my iPhone.

He used to be an electronic engineer. It's quite sad.

  9. My Mum struggles turning a light on

  10. Well mate, if you take after her, then all you need to do is lower the switch for her....

  12. One of my elderly relatives (84 yrs) is an avid Internet and Facebook user. I visited last weekend on my Diavel, and she loved it so much she took 'photos and posted them on her facebook account. I couldn't persuade her to go on the back, but she is a game old bird!

  13. Careful lads, some of us over 70's are still riding Ducatis as well, we're 20years old living in much older bodies. You'll find out soon enough.

My Dad who's no longer with my mum is a whizz on his stuff however he kept putting stuff on my Facebook and was bemused when some of my vile friends put something on :)
Also he kept asking where I was and what I was doing it drove me nuts.

Funniest thing I heard is Alan Carr talking about his parents and their shredder ... I walked into my mums and she had got one and was shredding!!!
