Can any of you fine chaps help me source chain rubs for a magnesium swing arm? I know they are like rocking horse poo! I have a Dymag arm that I bought from Kev (Skidlids on the DSC forum) many years ago, and I'm only now about to fit it to the bike! I have the upper chain rub, but in my stupidity I think I've lost the lower one! If I can't find one, I was thinking about having some made up in Delrin or something similar? Any advice appreciated!
I had to get one that was somewhere near to size but the correct length and then cut it to shape, i got it from jhp......
Thanks, sounds interesting! I'll give JHP a call tomorrow. Anybody have any experience of having them made up? It's a reasonably simple pattern?
JHP can't help It doesn't look like I can find any. The only other thing I can think of is butchering a standard one: the mounting distance between the first two holes is the same as a standard lower chain rub, its just the last hole is 20mm further on. Any ideas? I was just thinking of cutting the standard one and bridging the gap with thin aluminium plate (and some glue!)? I'd welcome some sensible ideas, I'm sure there's a better way!
Good idea! Anyone have access to a 1098 swing arm or the lower chain rub? I need the measurements between the three mounting holes please??
ill have a look tomorrow ive got a 1098 swing arm ill measure it. You could also email one of the manufacturers or suppliers in italy as they still sell them they must sell the bits with them.....
the upper one isthe one with the box chain guard on it the lower one has the guide for the rear brake line, both of these bits would be removable. there is only one hole on the upper i guess you could add holes where you want. the lower one has 3 holes approx 60mm and 50 mm apart hth
Thanks Andy, unfortunately it looks like they won't work Might have to go back to the idea of lengthening/cutting a standard one?
Thanks mate. These look like the same rubs Febur emailed me about. My problem is that most of the mag arms have a different bolt spacing to my Dymag arm (for the lower rub). I've stencilled some cardboard templates, hopefully someone is helping me having them made up!
look for a precision machinist in your area, you can probably get them to machine down a block of nylon or ptfe to suit, or go onto RS components and get a block and work it yourself if you're handy with a saw Delrin comes in black or white, but for super toughness you might want to try tufnol: Solid Plastic Sheets parts with free next day delivery | RS Components PTFE is super slippy: Buy ptfe sheet online from RS Components hope this helps.
Thanks Sev, I'm sending the templates to one of the lads on the forum, he might be able to help me out! Good info though, cheers!
