Hi all, anyone run their 748 9xx without the rear hugger? or any of their dukes? i know its probably not the best idea but im looking at pics of my bike during its refresh and to me it looks great without it.. thoughts and piss takes welcome as always...
They look better mate but the rear shock gets covered in shite I've got a carbon chain guard with the hugger removed looks bad ass!! Selling it if you want it?? Have a look at my featured threads there a pic of it on my 853 track bike.
I once bought a 996 that had spent it's life without a hugger. The shock and rear of the engine were very ropey as a result.
ive bought another bike so as to not put to many more miles on the 48 and am trying not to ride it when its wet, with this in mind is it a crazy idea? i know obviously that ya'd still get stones and what not flicking up but to what degree? would depend on the roads im riding for sure but am curious as to weather others run like this and what the out come is. as in how much shit hits the shock and rear of engine?
Said 996. You can see the state of the shock, but the paint on the engine has had it and blebbed up etc.
i dont think thats that bad tbh.. my 748 with the hugger was in a lot worse state than that. and the paint always comes off!!! im being honest here but perhaps also trying to convince myself its not a daft idea! @cookster when you say "selling" do you mean free to a good home?
One man's minter is another man's shed I suppose Chiz. :Watching: I was contemplating buying a BST carbon swingarm for the 1098R, but can't seem to find a pic of one with a hugger, which is the only reason I haven't. I don't fancy the Ohlins TTX getting shot blasted every time I go out.
it does... look sharper that is. my 748 is not the most practical thing to keep clean as it is but that pic kinda tells me the hugger is going now!
My 996 came without and seems ok. I think she has seen mostly dry mls though. Fitted a hugger in autumn and like the look and fitted a few other carbon bits. Pic without, just.
yea ive just been looking at em..£49.00 for a new one aint too bad.. cant find a pic of one on though and i dont want to totally hide my shock as i love the look of it!!! cant spend money at the min either as im trying to save!!! that said how much you want for the chain guard?
I had a hugger on my 996 when i got it in 98, paint still flaked. Then had a shock guard instead, didn't like that. So have run without for about the past 15 years with no real grief, even though i repainted the engine about 10 years ago. I have ohlins on the rear of mine but i had the shock rebuilt last year and had the alloy body fitted to the shock in place of the steel one which had gone manky years ago once the zinc chromaate finish had given up. I'd never have a hugger again, and yes it does get used in the wet but not salted wet conditions.
You could use a shock sock\sock tube, which covers the spring and protects the damper rod from stones etc. Possibly not the nicest thing but it's another possibility. R&G Shocktube | SHOCK27BK R&G | BikeNation
