996 Header Tank No 4

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by densel16, May 3, 2016.

  1. I have had 3 header tanks now (the second of which lasted 2 months. Has anyone got a aluminium one they want to part with? $180+$60 import and postal seems a bit steep for a new one.

  2. @Dukedesmo if I recall correctly was on tank number 5- he may have a source.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  3. I would be looking into why your cooling system is get pressurised so much.

  4. Wel I have had 3 go when it was a 996. Now it has a 1098 engine in it, which has just been rebuilt. It has silicone hoses and a 996 rad. The temp when it first started leaking was 105 degrees, which I wanted it to get to as I was checking that the fan cutting in. It was pissing out of the neck (where it fits into the plastic body), so I changed the rubber o ring on the neck. It then leaked at 85 degrees I do not envisage a problem with my cooling system operation, rather the crap manufacture of these shoddy components. When I asked moto rapido (who exchanged my last one after a two month fail) what present age of tanks failed this quickly, they replied "about 15%" !!!!

  5. My 748 is leaking coolant and I think it might be this , first time but not bad for a 12 old bike

  6. My first made it to 13 years/36,500miles and started weeping along the RH seam just aft of the steering damper closest to the frame tube. First thing I noticed was the smell of the coolant. Never leaked bad enough to be anything other than a minor nuisance and had it changed at the last belt service. They are cheap sh!t and a repeating failure on Ducatis, 848 recall anyone! You would think after 20 years they would have learnt

  7. Have you got a 748 as well??!!! Just looked at your bikes.....nice. Will have to give you a shout when I'm next in Dublin.(my mums from there Drimnagh).

  8. Yeah I have the 748s from new 12 years now , just got the 748s and 998 now . I'm living in Drimnagh :) just added 2 photos of the 998

  9. Liking the 998, didn't know they made a 748 senna, I thought they were just 916/996's. I love the senna colour scheme. I have just bought a aluminium tank from course dynamics off eBay (272090966372), put in best offer with "cnc_machined" of $170 (£115) and it has cost me £163 with post and import charges. Not happy with crappy Ducati's headers. Not willing to risk another immenant leak.

  10. It's not a Senna , but the last of the 748s came in these colours and only 2 came into Ireland . I'm gonna have to find where the leak is first .

  11. I shaved off some of the rubber stopper that fits under the ignition barrel assy, so no compression. Mine has started leaking from what I believe is a deformed appeture. My last toe leaked in different places/ seams/etc. just face facts. They're crap.!!

  12. Sorry, but it deceptively has Senna stickers on!!! Googled
The 748 and it a titanium scheme. Nice all the same.

  13. Yeah i just stuck the senna stickers on as it looks the same :grin:
