749 Speedo Fault

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Ady, May 10, 2016.

  1. Hi all,
I finally got to take the 749 out for a decent spin at the weekend, problem is the speedo was working fine and then showed 170 then 40 then 0 and stayed at 0 all the way back, nightmare what with all the speed cameras! It did flicker on every now and then but only for a couple of seconds, what do I need to do?
    Cheers

  2. Possibly speed sensor at rear wheel or the connector to it. Check the connector first, it's at the rear of the crankcase on the clutch side, close to the crankcase breather. The sensor signal goes to the ECU then by canbus to the dash. I doubt if it's a canbus fault or other things, like the revcounter, wouldn't be working either.

  3. Thanks Derek, will have a look this weekend.

  4. When I replaced my cruddy disc bolts with shiny titanium ones, the speedo stopped working due to the lack of signal from the non-ferrous bolts as they passed the sensor.
This also resulted in the engine light showing, so I'm wondering if you're getting the engine light too??
Incidentally, I cured the problem by embedding ferrous ball-bearings in silicone inside the allen bolt sockets, speedo came back and the engine light went away.

  5. Thank you fella, something else to look for, the engine management light did come on every now and then also!
