  1. Still sounds like bearings to me I'm afraid. Hope I'm wrong or that they'll fix it FOC.

  2. Hopefully they do fix it. Or I have to fight it with finance company, not being fit for purpose etc.

At least if they do the repair. Would be like a new motor. Just going to miss a chunk of the summer

  3. Think I'd be doing as many miles as possible to the 3 months is up........

  4. Spoke to the dealer today, told them everything about oil change, provided picture of receipts of the genuine approved parts, provided the picture of the sump plug and mesh filter.
Told them I did start it briefly afterwards and noise had dramaticly disappeared, however told them that I was concerned about the level of swaf found, and that I believe either.
Gearbox fault = but gears feel really smooth, 2nd thought that's the problem :tearsofjoy:

Flywheel nut could have come loose.

But because I found small brass shaving in the oil (bottom of the drain pan) I believe fault could be main bearings.

The dealer replied saying thanks for the update. They will give the bike a thorough inspection and report on findings.

So honesty is best policy and now just a waiting game to see what's at fault.

  5. I think it best that you told them of the oil change.Lets hope they do the right thing.

  6. Over the Last couple of days, I've Google like mad.
It seems to be a massive problem within this bike, many bikes with less than 10k miles seem to be affected.
My problem is, I know the company (currently) is going to repair this problem, however is this just going to be a quick fix (bodge) just to get me out of warranty period and to keep me quite, or do you think the company will do a decent job, who knows.

I don't want to be negative but I'm thinking about my options, this bike is financed but should I be asking for like for like replacement, money back, swap bike.
I want to keep this bike but doubting with the endless possibilities the cost that this could cost the company I bought from and how well they want to invest to keep me happy, after all they do want to make money..

Obviously I am only speculating at present but wanted to prepare myself.

    What would you do?

  7. I'm not sure there's a quick bodge for what I think may be wrong. I suspect you may be in for a new/replacement engine...:( Is the bike still under warranty from the dealer?

  8. I bought the bike on 17 th Feb. Three weeks later it went back for fault with starting. Kept throwing neutral light out..(dealer said no fault found) but fine from then on in.
When it was returned the wing mirror bracket was broken in transit. And the dealer sent me a replacement bracket along with £30 good will.

Now this. I want to keep the bike,I love it. But I just can't see a dealer investing all this time into it. Surely can't be making money on it.

If they fitted another engine (won't he new) I would need some kind of extended warranty on this as what's to say how good /mileage it truly was.

Obviously I'm not doing anything until I hear from them what the problem is.. Could be a simple fix

  9. Good luck with getting it sorted. These situations are always uncomfortable. Only now do you find out how good the dealer actually is. Many are happy to grin at you and promise "we'll stand behind the bike".
    Again, good luck.

  10. Well today I received an email saying it wasn't the flywheel nut,it was something more serious and to wait on further inspection..

I'm glad they are sorting it.. But how long. And to what extent is the damage

  11. Well at least that's good news they are actually doing something. Fingers crossed for you for a good outcome.

  12. Ive been in a similar position years ago with a Honda I bought. Had a few problems with starting, I had the dealer 'fix' it and then just after the warranty period thr engine blew! I ended up trading it in to a local shop who I think took pity on me and did me a deal on a nice Kawasaki! My advice is to get rid of it after they've fixed it. Unless you phsically see what work they do then how will you know it's been done properly, ie a long term fix rather than a bodge job. I don't think it's these bikes as a rule, if you go and search enough for fireblades you'll read loads of issues too with oil use and engines going pop! It's just luck of the draw unfortunately and people tend to post online when it goes wrong rather than when it goes right....

  13. This bike is financed so not 100% sure how it all works. Would the refund for the bike. But would I still be liable for the interest?

I quite happy to let the dealer fix the fault. As long as the work is warrantied. I don't think the dealer would cut corners, this is because the dealer is 4hr drive away and the cost alone to collect and re deliver must be high enough to make them want to fix it as it was originally intended.

But as soon as I know I shall post up..

  14. Good luck, at least you've got a dealer willing to resolve the issue. That in itself can be a challenge. In terms of the finance company, I would inform them of the issue and the current situation. If the bike is not fixed satisfactorily then you have the right to return the bike for either a replacement or refund. The finance company may contact the dealer also to ensure that the bike is fixed asap and to the right standard. Keep a note of dates and calls made etc.... Just in case. Hope you get it sll sorted!

  15. Agree, if it's on finance they technically own the bike and should be informed. It's a bit like ordering something with a credit card, you have a degree of protection because they 'own' the vehicle. But if you don't let them know, how can they intervene on your behalf? It's in the finance company's interest to get it fixed properly incase they need to repossess and flog it.

  16. well I've found out what the problem is.

the dealer said it was main bearings, which I needed a new crank, and it had damaged one of my cylinders. I asked the chap what the plan was, he said he was waiting on a parts list and a full report from his mechanic.

I also took your advice and called the finance company, they said i was totally within my rights to ask for a refund (did not talk about the interest and if this would be cleared) but the chap did try and edge me towards asking for an exchange of goods..
to be perfectly honest, so far I'm extremely happy with how the dealer has dealt with this, they have been honest, and i get the feeling a good job will be done. after all why say all these things are wrong if you was going to bodge it.

I have asked for a full report and how they wish to carry this on. depending on this will be depending if i wish to swap goods or go for a refund.

I did call my local Ducati dealer and he said i was looking at a minimum of 2.5k if i was to have work completed with them..

oh I did send the dealer that has my bike that I was unsure about using a reconditioned engine,my reasons are, getting a low mileage 6k engine, and how can they confirm that this would not happen again.

surely with a potential money pit would they not consider offering me a swap? how could they justify the cost to put this right?

    thanks for all the advice

  17. Great news that the dealer is being so honest and up front and that you're getting support from the finance company. If it was me i'd go for a replacement bike or a full refund. The refund allows you to walk away clean and buy something else without feeling pressured to take a bike you probably haven't condidered or not completely happy with long term. Lots of people get caught out with private sales or dealers that don't cooperate so I would take the money and give yourself time to think/ look for the next bike.

  18. That's it... Ducati is beyond economic repair. And dealer going to refund. Including the last two payments I made for the bike.

Now to re finance and look for a new bike

  19. Well that sucks but at least you know where you stand with it. Must be a relief in a way.

Do you think you'll be after another 848 or something different?
