6K is a bit optimistic for an R. But maybe you could nudge this down to 7? KTM RC8R (2011/61) for sale [ref: 7664831] | MCN That could be a good buy. Bit of a trek to Jockland but if your passport's in order and your inoculations are up to date it might be worth mounting an expedition to inspect it.
Thanks! I've already out budget upto 6K from a handful and I'm not going any higher.I was born up there in a place called Broughty Ferry (nr Dundee) Omer half a century ago but managed to get over the Wall and move to London before I ended up with the accent and skirt
Had my test drive today on the RC 8 and I thought it was a good set up.A bit greasy and drying road surface meant I couldn't give it full chocolates. Was a bit gutted that their RC 390 was out on loan (trade talk for "in workshops and we ain't been able to fix it?)
You have read my mind! I've not seen it but the "normal wear n tear" in the pics is deffo pointing that way
Seller is claiming a 25bhp power hike over factory std bike - seems a hell of a lot for an air box conversion and an exhaust change? Mind you the exhaust does look a bit trick?
It'll be top end. Its 16000 miles but it is a bit special. Its not an S, its better than that. Its been blue-printed, balanced and tuned by Richard Lewelyn (all paperwork and dyno printouts). Its got more punch than a very punchy thing. Its had suspension upgrades- Ohlins TTX rear, K-tech piston kit up front fitted and set up by Racelab suspension. Had its major service last year and only 1000 miles ago when it had a complete new clutch including Barnett stainless tipped basket and a full set of Carbonne Lorraine brake pads all round. Its got Exact upgrade starter cables fitted (the very first set SF set ever made so special rarity value . And it will probably get treated to a lithium battery soon too - there's a lot of compression). Tyres are good (M7RRs) and its been sprinkled with Rizoma and Lieb Speed carbon. All original parts supplied. Will have a 12 month ticket and a service. (Only done 1000 miles since its major service but as I haven't ridden it much since last year its due a yearly oil change and a book stamp. That'll be done). Its got to be £9500. Dealers are selling standard bikes for that. It needs a new instrument panel. That is being sorted. Ducati are supplying one at half price as a good will gesture and that'll be fitted soon. I was planning to send the old one to Scorpio electronics to see if they can't fix it, then there's a spare. Not a great picture but I'm crap at photographing bikes.
If the plastics are good but there's a lot of wear everywhere else it probably has been tracked with race plastics.
Still haven't decided whether I will sell it. I'm minded to because now I've got the 1290 I'd really like a track bike and the SF is far too good for that. I'd never forgive myself if I binned it. I'll see how I feel when the dash has been done and I can ride it properly again.
Seriously... Get this! KTM 990 SM | eBay Comes with Akrapovics and the R version was one of the best bikes of ridden. Gimlet has the touring version and can't seem to part with it [emoji6] Mine only went as it was stolen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wow! Looks great value and a genuine description? Now you got me thinking cos I limited myself to £5/6K on a sports bike so I could spend £2500/3000 on a reasonable KTM supermoto 540/640? Are they still pretty quick and don't mind a bend?
KTM make excellent handling chassis. Those 990 series LC8 engines are awesome and don't require the maintenance of their more 'pro' series of smaller supermoto bikes like the 690 SMC. Take one for a ride and it will blow you away. Spend £5-5.5k and you'll get a nice one with change for a custom map or something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Don't mind a bend....???? They go at bends like a dog chasing a stick - tongue out, ears flapping. Lemme at em!
SMs are a bargain. SMTs hold their money. Straight-through decat cans, a pancake air box and a remap and they sound deeply deeply lovely and you wheelie out of every roundabout.
Hahaha great! I still give it a go for a crusty but I realised my Shane Byrne days are behind me last year when I was a bit over ambitious on my 79 GS1000 Cafe Racer and we both ended up in a hedge
