How many rebound clicks do you guys have on the Showa forks? One side of mine has 16 and the other is 12, wft!! Any ideas?
Depends on where the rebound rod had been locked up. Don't worry always adjust from fully in. You won't need all 12 clicks.
Mine has just started to do a tiny wobble as I turn in so thought id check the settings were even on both sides. Once in it feels ace but it never did this before so something isn't quite right. Any clues? Bearings seems ok at the wheel and at the steering stem.
Have a look at both tyres, do you have a flat centre line around the tyre coming into the tyres, front may even be wearing like a pyramid with the top cut off, it doesn't have to be major to create a small ridge where the tread pattern rumbles a bit causing the sensation your on about, Next I would go to local bike shop and ask for basic setup for YOU, it'll be the best £40 ish spent
Yeah agreed. I have today started to reset the shocks fom scratch again. Hopefully that'll sort it. The rear tyre is almost new but the front is unknown and was on there when I bought the bike so maybe time for a change.
If your tyres don't match that's a bit of a naughty, if you have mismatched them too much it'll be a wobble created by the forces on the chassis, Let me know the full make and model of each tyres, did the wobble start not long after new tyres fitted?, there's nothing we can't sort but need very accurate info to help without the bike in front of me
PP2 both front and rear but different ages. Replaced rear only this time as front still had plenty of life. I reduced the sag yesterday to 25 mm (without full kit on so will measure again with full kit) and will ride again today.
I presume by your signature your doing a 749? Google search for "carl Salter DUCATI 749 handbook" download the PDF and save it, ducati has the suspension settings by weight and I used this for me and my bike was perfect, the settings table gives all the clicks & turns for body weights, spend half a day with a friend, it is difficult to do it yourself make sure you do static sag, first if you cant get in the ranges given then you will never get great suspension control you'll be compromising and never get it tuning to YOU properly, you must changes spring rates as it advises
same as mine then! Mate I've just seen your from Somerset.... I really hate sending people to my competitors but, go to JHS racing in Bristol, I think £40-60 they charge for the basic setup and drive in service, make a booking and they will do it with you on the bike with your kit on, Do me a favour though, say Andy the boss of protyre Bristol sent you, they don't like us much and may slate us a bit because of our good reputation, but make sure you repay me by letting me do you a good deal on tyres, you'll then see why they are jealous if you want attempt it yourself until about mid July them you can come to my house on a sunday and I could help you, I have some basic kit at home, id do it earlier but my spinal op is on Tuesday so need to recover, by then I will be able get out on a bimble with you once we set it up?
JHS is a swear word in our group of bikes, James is quite simply the most arrogant bloke I have ever met. I wont go into details here but lets just say he has stitched us all up in one way or another and his business is pretty much based on slagging other reputable businesses. Anyways, Id like to have a go at getting it right myself so off for a ride shortly armed with some tools.
That's why I gave my warning, I'm always here to help where I can, did you download handbook? next thing is to google Avanti suspension set up, this is a terrific guide to troubleshooting, good luck with your love hate relationship!! If I knew how to put links on here I would do it for you Nice day for it Cheers Andy
I was just one of his customers but with my bike he just set about slating every single bit of work carried out by others. James then failed to diagnose a simple idle set up and went about fitting new injectors, new main loom, new filters etc etc, cost me over 1300, then he mapped my PC and the map is fookin terrible low down. I'll never go back. Similar with my mates. Seems if you know a little bit you cam easily see through James' bullshit. Unfortunately for me by the time I realised my bike was already stripped inside his workshop.
OK, so after a few hours out and about using the bike on roads and corners I know well I have settled for 20mm rear rider sag and front a little more but more importantly it is set to use as much of the front travel as possible. Rebound is set to JUST hold up each spring then backed off a click and 1/4 turn on the rear. Compression is set to allow the front fork to travel all but the last 20 mm fork stantion, rear set similarly. I am in easy knee scraping territory again. I had everything set WAY too stiff.
have you ever looked up Dave moss suspension setup on you tube, spend an evening now to learn some simple technique, it well worth it, first check now, front, hold handlebars, don't touch brake, push down, let suspension travel without any pressure, then return stroke should never come up the go back down to settle, it should only come up to static place but loose as poss, rear, push down on rear of passenger seat or cowl, it needs to do same as front, the return should never come up then drop again t settle, rebound set to fast, final check, place left hand on tank and right hand on rider seat, tank hand should not cover fuel cap, closer to seat, push down 2 - 3 times, is the push down balanced, i.e. both dropping at same speed, now are both returns returning at same speed, adjust the one that's faster to even up, Yes same happens to me w get customers question our work, we double check and our fitting bay ARe open for the bike owners can watch all the processes, if you have any questions you can ask the fitters they love talking bikes Enjoy Dave moss
