Ok iv an sc1000s with full system and wasp puk ( power commander, velocity stacks and k&n filters in breathers ) anyhows the bike hasn't had a problem starting before. I upgraded the starter cables and fitted a lithium battery , the bike now cranks stronger, but, it won't fire unless I give it some throttle and even then it's reluctant. When trying to fire it smells of fuel and even let's a crack from exhausts the odd time. I removed the plugs and they look blacker than normal and the front ones are moist. When the bike starts it idles and runs perfect and I hit 140mph on the clocks ( closed runway obviously ) iv had tank off checking in case iv knocked a connector loose, iv bypassed the p/commander and it's just the same, iv ordered new plugs but only 4100miles on bike. I fitted the old battery but no help????? I'm going to stick it on diagnostics next week but I wondered if anyone can help. Could a coil breaking down effect starting but not running ? HELP. Stephen Ps belts were replaced a year ago, filters are clean, fuel , fresh, bike turns over really well. All fused are intact and relays seem ok ???? Hot or cold starting the same.
No standard ngk plugs, they haven't been touched. New ngk arriving tomorrow , the fuel pump cycles as normal or sounds like it, when tank refitted and turned on you can hear it purging the air in fuel line .
It appears the battery couldn't power the injectors fuel pump starter etc. so it was firing fuel and fouling the plugs, then when it did fire it was rich and the plugs blackened. Discharged and recharged battery and raised resistance to starter. Bike starts fantastic first touch of button it fires instantly.
Wooops lowered resistance to starter, should have checked my posts. It looks like my earth may have been compromised. Anyhows sorted.
Great news that the problem is sorted It's equally important to know how it was sorted and what the problem turned out to be though. It all adds to the collective knowledge.
I had the same thing with my 1098. The dealer couldn't trace it and it kept flooding. A new 18A LiPo battery sorted it.
