evening all. Just installed a Hel clutch line and Oberon slave on the 998. Bleed up ok but took ages. Just wondering if it'd be worth while fitting a bleed banjo next to the master as obviously the master doesn't have one... Be good to be able to bleed the system a bit quicker but is the only decent way to have the bleed inside the master? Cheers, Ian
Fitting a bleed nipple at the master cylinder end will make life so much easier. I fitted a banjo bolt with a bleed nipple in it on my 916 and it made bleeding the clutch a breeze.
I got fed up strugglin to bleed the upside down rear brake on my Monster and invested in one of these. Draper BBK3A Expert Universal Brake Bleeding Kit God, life is sooo much easier now and takes a fraction of the time!
I fill the master cylinder up and put my finger over the end of the threaded section that takes the clutch (brake) line and pump the clutch lever. You will find it builds up pressure and primes the master cylinder. After that get the line on as quickly as possible and then nip it up. Using this method I have always got the master cylinder and line to bleed out very quickly. The front brakes on the other hand can often be much more time consuming.
I cadged a very large syringe from an A & E department......stick a short length of hose on the end, fill the syringe with fluid, then once the system has been flushed through to clean it out, I back bleed the brake and clutch systems 'from the bottom' ie via the bleed nipple..........it pushes the air out of the reservoirs...........so I make sure to wrap them with lots of rags.
That's what I do. Always found it easy. Once I've flushed out by pumping some fresh fluid up into the reservoir with the syringe I give the leaver a couple of pumps. There's usually some dirty fluid trapped in the piston and that pushes it out into the reservoir. I suck that out and pump up to fill level from below with fresh fluid.
For flushing and making sure all the air is out, when doing the brakes, force the pistons right back and insert some wedges or similar between the pads and discs to keep the pistons back........ ....then fill the reservoirs apply the brake levers really hard (use cable ties if on your own), then quickly open the bleed nipple and watch how much crap comes out.
