Are Monoposto or lightweight subframes still available

  1. Hi all,

As a quick question does anyone know of anyone still supplying lightweight Monoposto subframes for a 998?

I am struggling to find one but am not sure I am looking in the right place, any advice greatfully received.

Or if anyone has one kicking around they would like to exchange for drinking vouchers then let me know.

    Regards

  3. If your stuck i have all the brackets and bits required to convert a Bip sub frame to take a Mono tail.

  4. Hi Paul,

Thanks I am now sorted, I already had a mono seat unti fitted but wanted a lightweight subframe which DukeDesmo pointed me in the direction of.

  5. If you fit one of these to a Bip do you need to extend the wiring loom to the ecu?

    Thanks

  6. Yes, the ECU sits in a different orientation so the plug won't reach - you can pull back enough from the left-side of the frame for the big plug to reach but some wires need extending.

I had to extend the wires to the temparture sensor (under the steering) and then cut all the cable wrap off the underseat part to get everything further back. I also had to extend one of the underseat relay cables, but the underseat extension was only neccessary because I fitted an underseat breather box which fills the underseat area.

However if you didn't want the underseat breather box (this was the reason I fitted a mono subframe) then you could modify the ECU mounting in the mono frame so that everything fits as before with no or little wiring mods.

Alternatively you could probably replace the entire section of loom with that from a mono bike, if you can find one with the correct ECU connections etc, as I think most mono bikes used the P8 ECU which has a different loom?

  7. You may already know this but with the mono subframe you will require a different seat catch mounting plate for the seat unit - flat rather than offset as the seat latch sits higher up on the mono subframe and so the catch must sit flat to the seat rather than offset to miss the pillion seat pad.
