OK - I have a fairly decent, and not too expensive, "dash-cam" in the car. I've been looking for something similar for the bike. It appears to me that there is no real motorcycle equivalent - there are loads of "sports cameras" that run and batteries and don't loop record, but none that work like a car dash-cam, ie are powered by the bike's electrics, will loop record and will turn on and off automatically with the bike ignition. Oh, and mounted on the bike, not a "helmet-cam"... Anyone got any recommendations, advice or experience ? Cheers...
I've been thinking of a dash cam for a while, even more so when a young scroat swerved around a traffic island a few days ago and nearly had a head on with me. Do you have any recomendations JR? It doesn't have to be anything flash as it won't be for posting on FaceTube etc. It just has to act as an evidence recorder as such.
Something cheap @bradders preferably as I want to leave it on the dash full time. There might be an urge for a scum bag to pop the wondow and be away with a GoPro. eBay is my friend I suppose, as you say.
for the bikes i have go pro,, in the cars i have Bacview,, both run from live feed and both loop. go pro has view screen, bacview from remote screen ( dash mounted wifi phone ) all permanent fit and easily removed if / when i want
By the way, sorry to hijack your thread @JR45 :Bag: Let's take the thread back to your original question - Fairly decent, not too expensive, not battery powered, will loop record, will turn on/off with the bike's ignition and mounted on the bike. Any recommendations?
Two choices I reckon. Buy cheap car one and put it in a case of some kind (or cling til as some use with satnav) or one of the £35 go pro copies sj4000 wifi (just bought one) with all the kit needed and drill home for power in the housing and perm fix
Olfi - £150 gets you 4K video, loop record and powers on/off with bike power if you like. There's a thread on them on here. Massively good cam for £150. It is GoPro good for 1/2 the price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Surely this can't be any good for £8 :Wideyed: The postage is probably £5 of this. 2.5" HD Car Vehicle Dash Dashboard Camera IR DVR Cam CCTV Night Vision Recorder | eBay
Defo, all it needs is an SD card. For what I need it for, it may do the job for the price of a couple of pints.
This is what I use in the car. It's small, neat, fits close up against the windscreen, was easy to fit and easy to set up and works pretty well. I went for this as it has a rear-view camera as well.
I've used several of these for a while - one front and one rear in my Honda Accord, and one spare for using in other vehicles. For less than a tenner they aren't too bad - what I found is : Use a good quality SD card, preferably a class 10, or you will get crap quality video. They do not like getting hot - summer sunlight onto the windscreen whilst the car is parked is enough to stop them working. The video quality at night is not great. They do record sound pretty well. They are easy to extract files from onto a laptop. The playback onto their own screen is a useful feature. As with anything, you tend to get what you pay for, but as a basic camera they do work...
