Are people tut-tutting because he was caught, or because he was doing 150mph? I'd be interested to know how many people here have never done 150 mph on a public road. There are times and places to do it, mind. But frankly, I can't get remotely excited about it. And why would anyone want a current super bike and be even interested in having 200 bhp on tap if they weren't going to let the thing off the leash for a few miles? These days you can be dealing cocaine or breaking into people's houses to fuel your drug habit and that's all fine - slapped wrist, don't be a naughty boy. Find a bit of empty road and employ some of your bike's engine and handling (which you paid money for to get) and it's as if you're suddenly only slightly more reasonable than a serial child murderer. I find the somewhat self-righteous tut-tutting disappointing.
A kid killed at 70mph is no less tragic than one killed at 150mph. There's a time and a place for everything. There are places and circumstances where I wouldn't consider even going half the speed limit and there are times when twice the speed limit is not unduly dangerous. It's situational. Getting caught at that speed is probably a result, at least in part, of the rider not being observant or not being sensible, or both. Going that speed, of itself and in isolation, isn't dangerous - or at least, it isn't significantly more dangerous than legal speeds. However, at that speed, the opportunities for travelling safely are very few and far between.
IMO 152mph on the road whats the point really. Your going to get caught so you may aswell of paid for a track day and done it properly (cheaper) than paying the fine, your lawyer and getting banned. This guy gets window licker status for sure
Dangerous driving is one thing, exceeding the speed limit is another, in my view. I see no particular link, without context, between them. It's an odd bit of video footage. That particular bit certainly doesn't look as if he's doing 150 mph, or the van he is overtaking is already well over a ton. Still, I don't think that overtaking cars on an A road is a sensible place to do 150 mph, so yes, he may well be a prat. (And no MOT isn't very clever either).
I think the heavy ban was due more to the dangerous driving than speed - blind corner / brow of hill etc - doing that at 90 results still pretty messy
It's funny how people tut-tut because its a biker. If it was some moron being banned in a merc, porker, beemer, et al no one would bat an eyelid. "Oh well it's designed to do that" Bloody hypocrites.
lets get over it we all speed it all depends by how much  if we didn't this would be a BMW forum
This is the charitable view and may well be the case in this instance. I am just worried that what looks like "excessive" speeding = dangerous driving, ipso facto. Maybe it doesn't. Perhaps one of our members from the constabulary would care to elucidate. In Switzerland, you automatically get done for "perte de maîtrise du véhicule" if you fall off ("loss of control of the vehicle"). You will get this if you fall off in any circumstances: icy road, diesel, avoidance of an accident etc. The idea being, in the eyes of the law, that you should never be riding at any speed that would cause you to fall off and that you failed to adapt your speed to circumstances. Patent rubbish, but then the law often is an ass. Which only goes to reduce respect for the law. Not clever.
yeah i know, but to be fair he is a biker.. anyway, the odds of a total wipeout are stacked against the pilot rather than the other innocent roadusers....no excuse or justification of course, but a merc doing 150mph then having an accident will probably take a few more people to meet their 72 virgins than the lone crazy biker...
In the appropriate place those sort of speeds are safe enough in the right hands.I know the road vaguely but i would not comment on it being an appropriate road or not.We can get to those speeds very quickly on a bike, and it is totally different to doing the same speed in a car.If there are no roads joining,no pathways,no houses, machine brakes tyres etc all in good order and a good view for at least half a mile then it is potentially ok
its fine doing those speeds so long as the only thing your going to kill is yourself and some local wildlife
I think the location is in the 'dip' of the road about half way along that stretch where it goes down then up, heading towards Arundel direction. Just past the Avisford Golf course/Yapton turning. I know if you speed you gotta expect to be caught sometime or another. I'd say he got off lightly with the community service and ban/fines. He could be locked up. It looks like his intention was to go fast. As opposed to a rider who's sitting up and genuinely not aware of the speed he was doing.
