748r Oil Light

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Andy800, Jun 30, 2016.

  1. Hi Guys

Just been out for a hour or so, Just before I got home the oil light came on. A quick tickle of the throttle and the light went out but came back on idle...

Checked oil level when I got home, looks OK so I'm assuming oil pressure?

    Any ideas where to look

    Cheers

    Andy

  2. Try a new switch, they are well known for failing. Try a motor factors for a replacement as Ducati tend to be a bit expensive for these. This might be right ( VAUXHALL OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ) Hope it's that simple and nothing more.

  3. aI had the switch fail on my 916, IIRC Ducati want around £30 for a new one but, as above, the Vauxhall Corsa part is compatible (just make sure it's M10 x 1.0mm thread) and can be had for around £3.

They were so cheap that when I rebuilt the Monster I bought a couple so that I had a new one plus a spare and, funnily enough, last year my Son's Corsa developed a low oil pressure indication fault and an oil leak through the sensor so he got the spare...

  4. Great Stuff
    Many thanks guys

  5. My 996 has gone through 2 of those in the last few years. I bought the genuine Ducati part, however I didn't realize the Vauxhall Corsa part is the same.

  6. Vauxhall Aguila switch fits M600 Monsters and probably all the air-cooled engines too. The pressure range is slightly higher than the Ducati item (which is a good thing) and cost about £8 from the Vauxhall garage as opposed to £26 from Ducati!

  8. Hi Steve

I picked the switch up for a fiver. Genuine Vauxhall part. Not fitted yet though. Have to replace my rear brake light switch also so will do at the same time. I'll let you know

  9. Hi Steve

Just swapped over the pressure switch. It was the root cause. There was oil inside the plug when I took it off.
Fitted new switch....Fired her up....No more light

    Many thanks
