Ktm rc8

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by ducv2, Oct 31, 2012.

  1. Anyone on here owned a KTM RC8? (Not the R version). Any comments good or bad?

  2. Loved mine, was an 09/10 manufacture bike which is 'slightly' different from the 08's but not loads

sound absolutely brutal with the Akra but its big money for the system although there are cheaper versions out there.

if I were you I'd read the rc8 section on the ktm forum, there's loads of good lads over there but take thick skin as they'll rip the piss straight away but all in good fun :)

  3. I had one of the early ones and got sick of problems. A big recall for camshafts and pistons was the last straw.

Without all of the troubles it was a really nice bike. Would possibly have another now the beta testing years are over,
but only if I couldnt afford another ducati.

  4. Any idea what the changes were? Spent enough money on my 996, so just want a reliable road bike

  5. Yep i believe it was a gearbox alteration, softer rear spring, oil filler difference possibly and I'm not sure if there was something else.
I think the gearbox should've been sorted on a recall for free though, the 09/10 may have a different map but again that's an easy fix.

to be honest they're a brilliant bike but don't expect jap'ness' although coming from a ducati I won't insult you with the whole 'it's a twin, get used to it' routine :)

the amount of people who buy rc8's/Ducatis based on looks but hate them due to the twin characteristics is ridiculous, I know it's been a running joke on both of these sites for ages.

The newer ones are twin spark and smoother but I've only test ridden one not owned one.

again the ktm forum has loads of info mate
