996 1098 Side Stand On 996

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by DevonDel, Jul 5, 2016.

  1. Does the 1098 side stand bracket fit on my 996? I'm not sure my side stand bracket isn't bent, so I thought I may as well replace the stand and the bracket to the 1098 upgrade.

Just checking its a straight swap for the whole unit??

  2. Yes, a straight swap, and a good mod to do.

  3. Anyone know the cheapest place to find one?

  4. Ebay probably unless you have any local breakers.

  5. So is it the change of bracket which improves the lean angle, retaining the 996 stand, or do both items need replacing?

  6. unless you have set your 748/9** rear suspension low then the sidestand 'leg' that comes as standard is just too short so replacing with the 848/1098 version addresses this. I swapped my first 748 'leg' with a modified Mito one which is also longer.

  7. Cheers Chris.

So, question the other way round - does the later model leg fit the 996 bracket?

  8. I knew you were going to ask! - memory failing a bit and I don't have both at this location just now. I know i fitted a 1098 'leg' on it's own in the past but can't remember if it's a 100% straight fit.

  9. ha ha. Cheers mate. I'll see if I can find one and let you know. That lean angle is a bit off-putting.

  10. don't feel obliged to let me know as it's really fundamental stuff ;) i'm sure you will get there :upyeah:

  11. I put a 1098 stand on my 996 and it fitted straight on to the standard bracket

  13. Cheers chaps. Just a new stand it is then.

And a bypass of the switch so I can warm it up on the stand.
