939 SP Diablo Supercorsas For Road Use?

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by desmoaddict, Jul 31, 2016.

  1. Hi all

My new bike comes shod as standard with the above.

In my club racing days (a wee while ago now!), we used to use these in SC1, SC2 and SC3 compounds. They were amazing on a track, but really suffered grip-wise from heat cycles: so much so, I'd never use them on the road. They were also pretty poor in the wet.

On that basis, I've used Rosso Corsas ever since on my road bikes and have found them to be great, not losing grip over the 1,000mi or so they last, and also not squaring-off easily.

My new 939 SP has about 700mi on it and the rear is squaring already (I've only put on half of those miles, before you berate me!)

Has the Supercorsa technology come on appreciably, so much so that I'd want to stick using these, or should I revert to my usual Rosso Corsa choice for road use, when I replace these?

    Thanks all!

    Best regards

    Leslie

  2. Depends on when you ride ? all weather or no ? if youre just dry weather like me then sp's I would say if cost is not the issue are the best....I have sp's on my rsv4 - I had sp's first and then switched to m7rr's which were awful and then went back to sp's...theyre the ones to beat IMO.

Ive got the m7rr's on my z1ooo now and theyre just as bad so I'm just wearing them down to change them with something else. Ive got a set of pilot road 2's on the hyper and theyre much better than the m7's (a new rear and a part worn front) - ive got a load of parts worns which ill be going through as the zed and the hyper are my daily use bikes - rsv4 only comes out for special occasions...hence the sp's.

  3. Thanks, mate.

My Hyper is generally a dry use bike, but I do really love riding fast in the wet. I got caught out weather-wise in a big way yesterday and was surprised at how good the SPs are in the wet these days. I tend to burn tyres quickly as most of my miles are 100% pleasure and the roads around where I live are amazing from the end of the driveway. I'm not so bothered about replacing them after a few hundred miles; just the way they wear and the amount of grip they lose over time.

    Cheers.

  4. Id have to say sc's then (for me for sheer performance theyre the ones to beat) but after reading the favourable reviews on the m7's then buying them and finding them a total disappointment I now make a point of trying out all types of tyre at least once ( I need to know for myself ) my mate had a load of part worns (very light use) and in there was a the pilot road 2's - a tyre I would never have bought but have been surprisingly impressed with and theyre really cheap...mental note made...

Ive got a nearly new set of avons to go on the zed next....some dunlops, some rosso 2's and some different Michelin's to go through next...

  5. A man (or woman!) after my own heart - someone who actually tries out things and forms an opinion which they're happy to share, rather than someone who follows the masses.

    Cheers, mate.

  6. Yep - for me they slid and gave out on the rsv4.....and also did the same on the zed probably moreso....had the suspension set up correctly on both, tried different pressures....sc's are still top dog so far...plus on top of that the rear lasted fuck all in mileage - I got just under 2k out of the rear - gimlet I think had 1.5k out of his whereas the magazines were quoting stupid fucking mileages like 5k or some shit like that....ive never seen more than 3k out of any tyres ever in 25 years of being on bikes...I get about 1.5 to 2k out of the sc's which is about right I think...

  7. Well my experience is the exact opposite. SC - very grippy in warm dry conditions when new. Awful in the rain after having been used for a while in the heat (Spain). The rears square off really quickly and the fronts form steps across the tread pattern. Fronts wear out before the rears do. M7RR - good grip so far in the dry, OK in the wet. Good enough for two days of hard use at the Nurburg ring along with the ride there and back. For all year riding I would go for the M7RR or any other more road-biased sports tyre.

  8. Obviously I run the standard super Corsas on my 939SP.

I ride fast on the road. Amazing tyres, and get super hot and sticky.

This happens the last time I was out.

  9. Isn't that just the transition between the 2 compounds ?

I get that on my Diablo Rossos just not as obvious.....

  10. I like the standard SP's that come with it. But I find it obvious that they would square if you ride freeways in your way to work or to twisty roads. So for that I would not recommend them. Personally I live close to nice mountain roads and I would fit them again IF I would not use it for winter as well. So the next set will be M7RR because I have them in my S1000R and I adore these tires so I want to try them on the hyper as well. Grip is good in wet.
If that gives me a not so great feel I would try the new Diablo Rosso III as they derive from the SP anyway.

  11. Got Mary's on my z1ooo. Worst tyres for the money I've bought yet.... Had them on my rsv kept stepping out on exit... Transferred them to the zed and just as bad.... Just wearing them down now to get them off...
