Hi I've read various forums and multiple you tube videos to believe this is something easily within my capabilities for my 2003 Multi 1000. However, the service book has for me, too many hand written and no invoice "belt changes" as I feel from time to time it helps the bikes history to have the occasional garage entry for such things as belts/valves. I have looked in the dealer reviews part but sometimes they need a few more reviews that are up to date So I'm In Harlow Essex and am comfortable riding an hour and a half each way to a good official or independent garage. Any suggestions? I want to try them out with just a belt change at first.
If the history is sketchy you are best getting the belts and clearances done - the clearances may not have been done for a while!
The clearances were done by Baines racing at Silverstone 2.5 years/3,000 miles ago along with some other things. The last dealer/independent belt change was 2.8 years/3,027 miles ago
ducati pro team in strood, kent... Don't know how far that is from you but if within distance deffo a good option. Al does a pick up n drop off device too if required ( and within his range)
Thanks gents. I saw the google reviews which put me off hyside a bit. I'm not in a big rush but have come up with a bit of a short list, I'd value others opinions? Baines racing in Silverstone, Moto V in Colchester and Carl Harrison in Harleston. Any thoughts?
Just reading Hysides reviews myself. 3 negative reviews from 3 young lads that tried to go in and test ride 3 Ducati's at the same time. I think I'd have been a bit suspect too at letting £45k out the door in one go. You know in a group of three on someone else's Ducatis they'll be riding like knobs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I thought the same, 3 lads obviously all knew each other clearly wanted to go on the razz for free and possibly the dealer may not have seen a single bike again. I also looked in here in the authorised main dealer reviews and only 3 out of 5 stars but again like so many of the reviews, they seem to have not been updated in over a year So what I did was read and re read the forums and came up with the most used names with a popular review by many which led me to the 3 names I mentioned.
This lot get good reviews on the forum. Was about to use them myself until the multi shat itself. Ducati Pro Team Ltd – #1 Ducati Technical Centre in Southeast England Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I hadnt heard of Carl Harrison but will be giving them a look out of curiosity in the near future to look at their set up and pricing. I have used Seastar in Newton Flotman near Norwich (the main Ducati dealer) and always been pleased with their service and the way they deal with me. The service manager is moving on in the next couple of weeks so will see who they put in his place as Tom was excellent. I have used them for both Kawasaki and Ducati big services over the past 15 years but did all the stuff on my GS myself or through a local independant
Thanks again gents, I like the clear pricing on the pro teams website. I think some more reading upon reading throughout the site again is needed
Here you go, give Mark at BSD in Peterborough a call 01733 223377, first class service at a reasonable price, looks after my 1198.
3000 miles ago seems pretty recent for a valve check to me and a belt change on a 2 valve bike is really pretty simple, so I'd recommend doing the job yourself and getting the belts from @Exige. Then you can use the money saved for a present for the bike
Glen at Moto-V is a really good guy. Knows his onions and sensibly priced. I was there the other day while he was waiting on a MTS1200 from Harlow area to come in.
+1 for Carl Harrison, I've used him a lot in the past and he really knows his stuff. Also +1 for Tom at Seastar, I've only known him since May when I bought my Multi but he's really looked after me. Pity he's leaving..! The rest of the chaps at Seastar are all good guys too, but if it was me with an out-of-warranty Duke I'd stick with Carl as the costs will be less. Good luck!
I ended up Giving Glen a call at Moto V in Colchester, had a chat with him and outlined the bikes history, my thoughts, needs, expectations etc and he was very informative on some of my observations and possible needs and not needed. It's booked in for middish September. I'm confident I have chosen wisely and will report back after the service
He'd certainly a good guy and very knowledgeable. Mine will be with him around then for a service & MOT.
