Ducati 2010 And Engine's Bearings

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Cream_Revenge, Aug 2, 2016.

  1. Seen a few posts now, especially @JH_1986 , regarding 2010 bikes having engine bearings let go.

Is the general census that 2010 bikes are best avoided? Were MY09 and MY11 OK?

I'm sure lots of 2010s are fine, be interesting to know how much worse the 2010s really are compared to other years.

Kind of puts me off buying one to be honest.

  2. Close this thread before my paranoia gets the better of me!;)

  3. In all seriousness, does seem slightly worrying that a lot of tales of woe have the common denominator of a 2010 bike. Maybe its just bad coincidence.

  4. I found enough tales online of bearing failures. Mostly 2010-2011 multi's but then I was only looking for multi's as that's what my problem is. I'm guessing that, regardless of model/engine, they probably got the bearings from the same supplier for a certain period of manufacture.

The disappointment is mostly that of Ducati and their dealers, not standing by the product. I've heard from an Indy that they are well aware of the bearing problems and get loads in. I've also heard from an official dealer who had 2 multi's in for the same bearing failure when mine went. Seems they know of the issue until you come asking them to fix yours. If we all had £1 for every dealer that has said "first time I've heard of that one" we'd all be rolling in cash. Utter bullshit

  5. I guess it depends which engine derivative you are talking about - the bottom ends on the 1198's were beefed up in 2010 from the 1098 issues - also the 1098 SF had 1198 bottom ends so had a somewhat hybrid motor between the 2.
So, stop throwing general acquisitions around about one of the rarest production Ducati's available due to another bikes discrepancies or you will never be allowed another bike as I will make a voodoo doll of you with model bikes and instead of sticking pins in, I will take the bikes away :Finger::Rage::punch:

  7. There is a theory that the harder you use it, the less likely it is to fail. Big vibey motors spending most of their lives at 2-6k rather than 5-10k. Shake em to bits
