748 Rear Wheel Cone Spacer

  1. Hi everyone, I've just put a five spoke rear wheel from a 998 fe on my 97 748 and the cone spacer seems to protrude more than when the standard 3 spoke wheel is fitted. Is there a different depth spacer for this wheel or will the standard spacer be OK .

  2. Not sure if it makes any odds but the 748 has a 5.5 inch rim and im sure the 998 has a 6 inch rim maybe this is the discrepancy. ?

  3. The 998 wheel I have is 5.5. It is the design that has the flat sided spokes. I've fitted a 190 width tyre and just been out for
a spin on the bike and all is well. I just thought it looked a bit odd with the spacer protruding by about 5mm.
    Thanks Dogrose

  4. Sounds fine to me. They are all the same washer/spacer afaik.

  5. I have a 10-spoke Marchesini on my 916 and the spacer sits more proud than it did with the original 3-spoke, so I assume the wheel is just thinner in that area - one way of saving more weight?

As long as it locks up properly and the split pin goes into the axle hole then it can't be too far out.

  6. Mine was the same , looked a bit odd at first , but soon got use to it ...

Although mine were 5 spokes ...

  7. Cheers for the replys, I torqued up the wheel nut correctly and
the circlip does locate in the holes correctly so I realised that it
must be ok. As Dukedesmo said they must be thinner wheels in that area, and it looked a bit odd at first. Thanks all anyway
