  1. Playing Devils advocate, it is the speed "limit", not minimum, advised or recommended. Sometimes doing 30 in a 30 or in a 60 is to fast. Not often mind.

  2. These smart motorways boil my piss.

Just seems that someone gets bored and decides to set a max limit to 40 to watch the tail backs build up.

Great isn't it having three or four lanes and every one of them doing -40 mph. Bumper to bumper so no one can change lanes

And slowing everyone right down just means that most people loose concentration imo, meaning even more shunts!

    Nice one.

    Idiots.

  3. I'm not a lover of them as it's another control that has been imposed on us. But I have to say that they work. Since they turned the section from J39 on the M1 up to Leeds into a smart motorway there hasn't been any sniff of a tailback anytime I've been on it, including morning and evening rush hour.

  4. The wort thing about that is when they do it cos there’s 3 or 4 cars queued up on the slip road waiting to get off.

All 4 lanes down to 40mph. Then you get the outside 2 doing less than 40 and you end up with the inside ones doing 70 odd. All because these stupid fuckwits in their cages cant be trusted not to go into the back of someone when theyre coming off a motorway!

"Beware queue ahead" - yeh the one you fucking created!

  5. Sorry, just to add, the people who see a 40 sign and think it means stop in the middle of the outside lane and get on your mobile phone, need culling from existence.

  6. They've absolutely ruined the m20. It now causes traffic.

  7. Frankly the highways agency should be allowed to dish out fines for those wankers who use lane 2 & 3 too then cut infront of the queuing traffic who've done the correct thing of getting into the turning off lane. That is why m20/m40 et cetra suffers tailbacks, not the matrix signs slowing people down too 40. The whole m25 needs to be 30 in the rush hour rather than 5-10pmh then suddenly 40-50..back down to a catapilllar action

  8. exactly theyre the dickeads who cause all the problems/shunts but then they dont seem to be bothered about poor driving these days, literally zero police presence on the roads round our way

  9. On the plus side I was coming out of Bristol last week to go to Weston Bike night - went over the swing bridge, coming up to the bottom of the Ashton bypass to hit roadworks...in my head I was thinking "fuck - they cant let it lie can they" - theres some development going on - and then elation when they put a massive offset roundabout at the bottom....massive win! "awesome - they put a chicane in!" so on the slow route out you can get some really good lean angle and on the way in fast, straight, downhill you just go straight through....cant see a sniff of traffic light mountings either...

Back on topic - it depends where he was doing it and what time IMO - not saying its right but if its 5am, summer, light, the road is straight, no turnings coming on to it, then have a go chap...makes you feel alive doesn't it!!

I'm a firm believer in "if the surroundings fit the speed...."

  10. Near me they are building the A5 to M1 link. Will be dull as dishwater but the A roads it's replacing will now be quiet and a couple of very fast looking roundabouts either end.

  11. Yeah - the roundabout at the top of the m32 in Bristol (under the M4) is my suspension test roundabout...! - that one and the next one down...the Filton junction...
