848 brake light switch

  1. I have just fitted some new levers to my 848 but the micro switch that operates the brake light has ever so slightly got a bit of play in it where it fits to the bars so the brake light stays on all the time, i cant see how it fixes onto the bike to fix the problem any help would be appreciated or do I try and get a new switch out of Ducati as my bike is still under warranty ?

  2. I had a similar issue when I fitted some ebay levers to my old evo.
You need to add some material to the part of the lever that pushes against the micro switch.
I started with a double sided sticky pad (cut down) to get the size, I then drilled a very small hole in the lever and added a tiny self taper, then filed the top down till the height was correct.
Yes - it was a flippin faff...!!!

  3. Or you could fit some quality levers that work just as the OEM ones did.......

    Just a thought!

Pays your money and takes your chances.....yeah I've read how great Chinese levers are.....but I didn't need Blue Peter style fixes for my money.

  4. Out of interest, what's wrong with the original levers?

  5. AVS are meant to be quality levers aren't they ?

  6. wrong color like the black ones best

  7. Couldn't you have the originals painted/powder coated?

  8. I'd have thought so.....but unless they stated the fact that they were for race use and did not operate the brake light, I'd be extremely pissed off if I had to carry out home made modifications to a set of £160 levers to get them to function correctly.

Unless AVS are a Chinese copy of ASV levers that is.

  9. Powder coating not a bad idea that !

  10. didn't get them from the shop I got them from this site I don't think it's the lever that is at fault and it seems to be the slight movement in the micro switch we are talking less than a mm of play, I have got it working properly now but would like to know how the switch attaches to the bars and do they have any movement in them ?

    Cheers Richie

  11. The originals are like flippin tyre levers, don't blame you or swapping them out.

  13. Is the pushrod clearance adjusted properly? The cylinder return spring is what acts on the the lever to return it fully and push the switch... This needs checking whenever the levers are replaced, even with OEM ones. If it's tight you'll get brake bind/clutch slip thru the system pumping up. Too loose and you'll have excessive lever travel.
The switch is a press fit into the cylinder body and not adjustable.
Tbh, how would it get replaced under warranty? It works. It's the change in lever that has caused the problem.

  14. No issue with my ASV levers, but that doesn't really help does it!
