Woke up this morning to a bit of a cheesy, nutty smell and thought the baby had pooed. As the morning went on the smell got more deathy until the mrs noticed the python had pooed out an undigested rat. So I masked and gloves up and went to deal with it. Unfortunately it was semi-digested, the tail, rear, hind legs and gut were intact but forward from there it was as though it had been spread like butter. When I tried to get him (Bubba) out of the way he curled up over it and got all defensive. After much wretching and urrrghing I finally got it sorted. The smell of death is now fading away and surely today can only get better?
My sister has a couple of standard poodles. One morning she was treated to the sight of the alpha male devouring a squirrel, coughing up the skull and the other male then gobbling that up. Poodles are not cute, they're sickos
That'll be a regurgitated rat not poo'd nasty smelly business, keep an eye on him though if it becomes a regular occurrence.
I kind of worked that out once I'd got to work, bum hole not being big enough an all that. His eyes have whited over as well so maybe he puked it as he's about to shed? He's gettin on now too, 12 years old
I used to work with a guy who kept a few reptiles and I remember him saying regurgitation, or worse, vomiting, can be bad for a snake. It can be caused by stress or temperature change. When his snake started shedding its skin he`d put it in a couple of inches of warm water in the bath, reckoned it helped shed quicker or something. I don`t know about pythons, but when my trouser snake "vomits" he soon recovers  .
Well I'm definitely going to be looking into it, don't want it to happen again as it was mega-grim. Probably a combination of temp drop and imminent shedding. He's never done it before in the 12 years I've had him, maybe he's on his way out? New belt?
Managed to find a few spare minutes in my busy schedule of lounging around the house and I found this Regurgitation in snakes Hope it helps.
Obviously none of you have been on a prison wing at 'Unlock and slop out' back before 1989 when sanitation was installed!!
Not a good start certainly! Reminds me of the morning I came downstairs, put the coffee on, and was called back into the lounge to remove the dead rat the cats had left on the sofa!
Pas de souci Hope it`s not serious. Just looked up how long pythons live in captivity, 15-20 years or more, you`ll have to wait a while yet for that belt.
