  2. :frown:

  3. So sad. I will never tire of watching Private Jones. Still one of the best programmes on tv. RIP.

  4. Ah no :-(
    RIP

  5. Sorry to hear of his passing but it was a crap programme nonetheless. Almost on a par with Hi-di-hi.

  6. I dunno ... I wasn't a great fan but it did give us some classic comedy moments.

  7. A good show, especially at the time.

Jones was vaguely annoying as a character though, somewhat predictable (but Clive Dunn didn't write the script). Many of the more subtle performances (Mainwaring, Wilson, Godfrey) were funnier.

Sad he has gone, but at 92, can you complain?

  8. OK, so I've spotted your deliberate mistake and I wasn't going to do anything about it but then the OCD kicked in and here I am tapping away. So, do I win a promotion.........or just £5 instead?

  11. How will he be remembered? If he's cremated, probably as 'Well Dunn'.

  12. I am surprised to read you saying this, for me it was a delight to watch all the characters interact. Hi de Hi never came close!!

  13. All that genre of comedy was crap. Topped of by Last of the Summer Wine. However living in LOTSW country has its advantages, such as great scenery and fantastic roads nearby.

  14. Think there is only Pike and Hodges the ARP warden left now out of the regular cast.

I quite enjoyed Dads Army, the captured German submarine crew was very funny.

  15. each to their own as ever..

  16. True. If you liked it then that's fine by me

  17. im sure its sad for his friends and family. i think he only made it to 92 so it must have come as a shock. no great loss to the world of comedy in my view. im probably the wrong generation, but laughter tracks and catch phrases arent my idea of wit. the bbc dont seem able to ween themselves from this MO...and still churn out dross like 'my family' and 'miranda'...such crap, so broad, so predictable, so safe and middle classed. i dont think the beeb have ever really contributed anything to comedy save for a few notable exceptions, and they are usually footlights types. channel 4 and independent telly is the proving ground for new talent...and then once established, they usually go over to the bbc for more money. i dont think that the beeb ever really nutures new talent of any sort.

  18. oh, and the worst, most puerile comedy of this banal bbc idiom??

surely it has to go with last of the summer wine....almost everyones dead and they STILL keep trotting that shit out..i suppose its for people who cant be bothered to turn songs of praise over.

  19. They finally stopped filming LOTSW lat year............after 37 years FFS
