OK, what's going on with F1? How is Hamilton on pole? Last weekend he got a 60 place grid penalty, which he served precisely none of - he started from the back because he didn't set a competetive time, not beacuse of the penalties, and thus saved another engine for racing. So - Mercedes spent the weekend putting in engines and taking them out again. Why bother with qualifying when your car is faster than 90% of the grid? You're pretty much guaranteed a top ten finish anyway... The benefits gained by the team for the rest of the season seem to far outweigh the loss from starting one race at the back. So are Merc taking the p**s ? The rules that were designed to help the smaller teams by limiting what the tops teams can do are being seriously abused... Taken to it's logical conclusion Merc could just forget about the limit on the number of engines allowed, put a new one in every weekend and take the penalties whilst the smaller teams struggle to make thier engines last all year...
