Broken Tyre Valve

  1. Had a tyre fitted yesterday, fitter said the valve was corroded and when I looked there was actually a piece missing. Are these easily obtainable (Ducati part I presume)?

  2. Got mine off eBay. Easy to fit but it's a tyre off job.

  3. Ebay is probably your best bet as it's a pretty standard straight valve. As mentioned tyre will need to be removed unless you can just open out one side and get at the valve.

  4. looks like a standard straight valve
most motorcycle tyre fitting places should have them
surprised they didn't change it when they did the tyre

  5. Me too... :/

  6. Does anyone have the 'horizontal' tyre valves fitted on their SS wheels? i.e. much easier to get at.

  7. i have an angled valve on my front wheel loads easier to get at I wanted one on the back wheel when I had a new tyre fitted but local bike shop didn't have one that fitted as the rim had a smaller hole in it than all the angled valves they had so fitted a straight valve
bit of a pain in the arse to get at though

so I have bought an angled valve from local ducati dealer
ready for when I get a new tyre fitted
    cost was £10.35 plus vat

  8. How come the tyre guy didn't replace it for you?? They usually have plenty of spares.

The angled ones are the better ones. You dont need to get them from Ducati , you can just pick them up in any bike shop.

  9. I fitted angled valves to my Monster both front and rear (same wheels as SS) and my 916 has angled on the front but doesn't need it on the rear as the straight valve fits into and angled part of the wheel but most bike wheels would be better fitted with an angled valve.

I would suggest the damage may even have occurred because it's not an angled valve making it tricky to get the airline onto?

I bought mine from the local bike shop (Yamaha Dealer), I think they were R1 fitment but they are a nice, neat valve and didn't cost too much. Unfortunately you need the tyre off to change them.

  10. Yep, I changed them when I do my tyres, they are much better for access. Front and rear.
