Tattoos: Not In 'ere Mate!

  1. It was a tongue in cheek quote,we all find different things offensive or look upon things in different ways,we as human beings will naturally find fault with things or peoples choices because they may not be the same as our own views/likes,i like some tattoo's and not others,i would employ anyone, my main criteria is they can do the job and i like the person. For the record my one and only empolyee has a great beard and we get on great and he has no interest in bikes.

  6. I like tattoos and some men do look better and cooler with than without. But i have never seen a woman that would look more attractive with than without

And by the sound of Pete if you have tattoos the only thing you should be doing is sitting on the sofa watch JK

  8. Time to spell this out so we can move on.

Hypothetical job scenario: Reception Person for an Architect's Office (picked this at random)

Two applicants apply, with equal qualifications and experience: one with visible tattoos, one without.

First question the employer will ask himself, probably subconsciously, is "Do people, in general, have a prejudice against visible tattoos?".
Note the question carefully. The employer doesn't ask, "Do *I* have a prejudice against tattoos?". He knows that a good chunk of his potential clientele are likely to look unfavourably on a firm who chooses The Illustrated Man (or Woman) as the first point of contact for its business.

Again, it doesn't matter how the employer views tattoos, he has to put himself into the shoes of a wide range of customers, many of who will bear a prejudice against visible tattoos. He can either take a principled stand against the prejudice ... or he can run a profitable business and eat every day. It's easy for many of us to blame the employer for acting on prejudice but remember, in some cases it won't be the employer's own prejudice which is at work here.

Oh, is this the right thread for telling everyone I *hate* the work "ink", when it is used as a replacement for the phrase, "a tattoo"?
Or should I go to the other thread where folks are complaining about words :D

  9. I'm a fan of tattoos and being naked but I wouldn't expect to get a job if I turned up like that. I like to do whatever the hell I want in life but it's naive to think that others will not judge you on that. Loz hits the nail on the head. Anyhow I'm off naked to get more tattoos.

  10. I know tattoos are not dirty but what would you think of a dentist with his hands covered in "ink" working in your mouth ? What about a gynaecologist ( obviously not in your mouth though ) a proctologist ?

  11. My dental hygienist, Rosie (who is absolutely stunning btw), normally works in trousers. However earlier this summer I had an early appointment and saw he coming into work and she had a short dress/skirt on and both legs were covered in tatts. So much so that I initially thought she had coloured tights on.

I'd still smash her back doors in tbh :)

  17. I have two not on show
I like tattoos especially nice ones I'm always admiring customers male and female
I have one customer covered top to toe and he is one of the nicest people but you should see the looks he gets
I used to look at him the same way until I got to know him to be honest he was scary looking

I have seen one female colleague visiting our store covered and her face too initially I was taken aback she looked scary but once I spoke to her she was really nice

Perhaps we shouldn't judge a book by its cover
