I was of course in a safe environment and tried to take the bike at a high speed. Although I have achieved 130mph before and could feel that the bike had more to give lately after trying again it goes up to 100mph and then thats it. Any ideas what would the issue be?
Sorry couldn't resist a little joke....seriously, I assume you have the 1200 with a standard exhaust? Could your exhaust valve be seized?
100 in 3rd, 135 in 4th then should top out around 150+ in 5th... Exhaust valve usually to blame, lube and lube or ask dealer to replace motor (if seized then the motor at the top that pulls wire sometimes needs replacing) Bugs
even a old ds1000 multi should do 140+ easy (unloaded anyway 2 up with luggage maybe not) if its topping out at 100 its not right and you should get it looked at. check obvious stuff like sticking brakes, look at the plugs to see if there are any clues there
Old multi c135 tops. Big heavy bike which doesnt cut wind very well problem if it wont do a ton easy tho, shold tour all day easy at that speed
Thanks all for replying. I will go to dealership tomorrow as I need to sort out the control panel as for the second time in 2 years all the lights are coming on when signalling.
This was in Germany, honest! (150mph indicated and still had more left but had luggage strapped on so a bit floaty....) Hope you get it sorted soon.
Brakes.. You've got to be joking Just try 100mph with the brakes lightly applied. You'll be on year u arse in under a minute.
If I'd spent upwards of 12 grand on a bike I'd be disappointed with that. Here's what 3 grand's worth of Triumph gets you... Top speed fully loaded View attachment 7796 Average speed across Germany View attachment 7797
146mph, you mean? On a Triumph Sprint with fully loaded panniers. 130mph was our cruising speed... The average speed would have been even higher if we didn't have to stop every 45 minutes to refill my brother's Ducati
