Hi all just wondering if any one is using bar end mirrors ???are they any better ie not so much vibration and I would think a better view and round or rectangle ones and what make ???? STUART
Whether they are any better or not, I reckon they just look silly, especially when the main are have been removed.........although I have seen the half faired version with one on the right side.......... I find mine aren't too bad for vibration...........I guess because I went round the whole area tightening things up and making different plates under the mirror mounting screws to hold them on tighter........ .....on the left side, I look between my arm and my body, but on the right side I can see what's coming quite well.
thanks for your thoughts was out with a guy with one of the new Norton's and he had bar end mirrors on that so was just a thought, what did you use for the plates under your mirrors ???
Under the gaiter which covers the mounting screws, you will find each screw has a silly washer or similar which has probably compressed into the plastic base..........that makes the base sort of uneven on the fairing and not that tight............I made a 2mm metal strip with two holes in it so it runs the full length and full width of the groove and the screws pass through that........... Also removed the self tapper in the base of the mirror arm and tapped it M4 (or was it M5?) and then used an M4 countersunk screw to stop the mirrors from falling down.......I think it was an M4 tap.......M5 might be too thick.
Not keen on bar-end mirrors. I've got them on the Guzzi, but they suit the cafe racer style bike, but on modern bikes they just look odd. As it happens they work ok.
I have bar end mirrors on my Sc ( it came with fairing mounted ones) and they are way better than the frankly, useless OE ones, I tried a standard set then a GP set with smaller neater looking glass and they work very well. I also have a small flat glass set on my clip on fitted S2R, these rquired fairly careful setup but are better than the convex glass ones that seem common but make seeing anything in them a problem. Fit them if you like them and dont let anyone else tell you whats good until you try a set. The fairing fixings can easily be secured with small allen headed bolts and simple washers, a nylon or plumbers washer can be used to damp the fairing if needed.
I've got 75mm round Oberon bar-enders on the monster. Love 'em. Much better than std stalky jobs in every respect.
M4 Al - I am re doing mine tonight (And colour coding them) - if they are completely stuffed, Halfrauds do identical mirrors for about a tenner, and those don't suffer the floppy mirror syndrome
Beware the Oberon ones. I have them. My brother in-law has these. PAIR OF ROUND MOTORCYCLE MOTORBIKE CYCLE REARVIEW MIRRORS 7/8" BAR END BLACK | eBay When we went to Scotland on our bikes this summer we had a good look at them next to each other, we concluded they are the same product. We might be wrong. But at 50 quid difference you may choose to have some faith in our assessment!
did you notice any difference in the depth perception compared to the Oberon ones? I found with cheap ones everything looked MILES in the distance. But maybe that ws because they were 50mm round.

Who's saying those ebay ones aren't?! Seriously, though, it is not difficult to take the Oberon one and get it copied in China or wherever. They seemed absolutely identical, I did not check the reflection in the mirror itself. But there is no way I wold buy the Oberon ones now I have seen these. He has had them on his bike for months with no staining or wear etc. I doubt Oberon would lie about making their stuff in the UK. I wouldn't.
Not wishing to be flippant but the main point of a mirror is surely the reflection? Maybe the more expensive Oberon have better glass, better silver backing and are concave or convex to aid seeing flashing blue lights.
na I doubt they would.. Rang them once about a grub screw falling out of me mirror and the lady was really helpful and funny. Sent me a bag of screws foc next day. That is the best thing about buying UK same with Harris and what not... They speak the lingo and are available on the phn
