Hi All, So a friend of mine is considering selling his 748R; it's a 2001 Ohlins model with approx 13k miles. I haven't put it in the for sale section yet because he wants to gauge interest. It is tidy, with good tyres and brand new clutch plates etc but it is due a yearly cambelt service and the sprag clutch is starting to sound worn. His options are to get the work done over Christmas and then try to sell it in spring for around £7750 or let it go now for nearer £7250. What do you think? I think he is after something a bit easier to roll out the garage and just go for a ride on, and is looking at an 848 Evo if he can find one that's clean. He may even PX. Here are a few pics, appreciate the opinions on whether he is just mad for selling, mad for the prices he wants or entirely sensible.... Mods, sorry if it should be in the For Sale, perhaps we can move it in there when I have more concrete details, for now I just want opinions on value.
we just were but it's pretty tatty and a non Ohlins model. The two that Moto Rapido have are £7K so i'm sure that's achievable for a much newer Ohlins model. Maybe not judging by the replies so far...
I just missed an 11000 mile very tidy standard model with full history on gum tree for an asking price of £2400. It was actually posted on here about 2 months ago.
Genuine question, why so much more for the 02? it's the same other than the slab side, or do you mean it just needs to be totally pristine for that much?
Think he's sayimg if its mint then 7k a possible but top end. MR sell bikes. Do finance. Give warranties. Don't hear of many getting a bargain I'd say 1k under the average dealer price
Ouch, fairly sure he will keep it and put some money into it then. I know I would if I was him Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'd want way more than 5.5K for mine. The ones I've seen on flea bay over the last 12 months have gone pretty fast, most ads terminated early, seen cat D's fetch almost 5K.
Exactly, they have all been in the 7k range even for private sale, I guess it just shows that u need to sell it when someone wants one.... Worth remembering as I'm sure u will know that it's not just a 748 with fancy suspension, the 'R' was the real deal, shower injectors, Carbon airbox lower, titanium rods and the full Ohlins, it's a different ball park in terms of ride compared to a 748. If he keeps is this winter then maybe I'll consider getting rid of the 899 next year and having the 748.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I started Ducati ownership with an 848...I've wanted an 899/1199 since they were released. Now I'm close to being able to afford one but I'm keeping the R, its special. Not comfortable, high maintenance but it makes me smile every twist of the wrist The chap who owned it before me has made contact a few times hoping to get her back. Speaks volumes. He has first dibs but I'd regret letting her go too.
There no way I'd sell a 899 for a 748r unless your going to track it. I had a concourse one few years back and though it looked , handled , sounded amazing it was one of the worst road bikes I've ever ridden on the road unless I was flat out all the time. Great track bike though!
A biker mate couldn't get 3k for his just a month ago, it had been tracked but was straight and MOT'D.
