Fitting a satnav to a D16RR?

Discussion in 'Parts, Accessories & Clothing For Sale' started by Dave, Nov 11, 2012.

  1. Any suggestions on how to best fit a satnav (Garmin Zumo 350LM) to this? I've tried everything I can think of and I'm stumped for a good solution.

  2. The techmount won't fit onto the fork tops

so I have tried a couple of other solutions with no success.

I have one of these but the knob on it is plastic rather than proper Ram-Mount rubber so it allows the satnav to move a bit and I'm worried it will hit and damage the top yoke.

I have also tried one of these but it is far too big and cumbersome.

    Any other suggestions very welcome

  4. LOL - yes, I know it seems wrong somehow but there are times when it really helps

  5. Could you try using the ball joint adaptor, but first get it in a vice and score some lines in it with a dremmel for the sat nav bracket to grip to?

yeah, sounds a bit cheap, but worth a try maybe on another bike to see if it works.

  6. Stick it in your pocket Dave
    Just follow your nose :)

  7. Aren't satnavs for Multi's?

  8. Nowt wrong with cheap - sounds worth a go!

  9. fix a RAM mount ontop of the steering damper screw?

do you really need a GPS to take you around MISANO, ARAGON and SILVERSTONE? :)

  10. Lol :-D

  11. Putting a Sat Nav on that is like drawing a mustash on the Mona Lisa.

  12. You can attach a thin bar end to the inside end of one of the bars, you will then be able to get an attachment to clamp the sat nav to the bar end. Works a treat :upyeah:

  13. Long bolt and rubber tube expanded in the yoke stem is your answer...maybe?

    worth a try?

on a serious note, i'd go for iphone app Waze and headphones - cheapest combi

  15. It seems like Lorenzo needs it, for every corner of every circuit good only knows how he comes first :)

Dave why not attach a tank bag and put gps there. Or put it in your pocket and just listen to instructions. It is what I do.

Easy - I have one on mine and it goes on and off in two mins. I used a Honda fitment Techmount, put a larger rubber washer with bolt through the centre, which compresses the rubber washer out and fills stem centre bolt and works perfectly. Has taken me all round Europe. Invaluable bit of kit.

  17. Just pre-plan where the petrol garages are.

  18. Cracking. I've found it online. http://www.buybits.com/Product/7140/Techmount-3-10105-Black-Universal-Stem-Mount-sku-7140.aspx

Where did you get the larger rubber washer from?

  19. Dave,

Mine was slightly different to that one as I went for the offset version so that I still kept a clear view of the speedo! But that will work too. They make a version similar to that but with a 90 degree L bend. Same stem mount though, which is what you need.

I think I used a thick rubber washer from B&Q that should otherwise be for some other general domestic appliance, and a large washer and bolt straight through the top with a nut on the bottom. Compresses the rubber inside the tube when tightened. Don't forget to grease the threads so you don't end up with the bolt spinning and the nut rusting on there or you will struggle to get it out again.

Works a treat though, and a godsend in Europe when you have an 80ml tank range before you are coasting with the clutch in to save fuel!

Anyone who hasn't tried using a satnav on a sportsbike yet in Europe is missing out. You get the map, plot all the twisties, then just glance at the screen from time to time and wind it up! If you know you don't have to turn for 25kms and it's a purple wiggly line it's game on! So much easier than a map.....
