Any Truth In This?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Not Carl Fogarty, Oct 19, 2016.

  1. Stumbled across a couple of posts on a forum, this maybe old news / just rumor, sorry in advance if that's the case.

    1) In 2030 Germany are going to ban all combustion engines < It appears this means the manufacture of. I'd assume this is only a discussion. The post I read suggested it has been given the green light. Seems a little ambitious to me. Just googled this up, not read it yet..

law? Germany moves to ban internal combustion engine by 2030

    2) London Plan to introduce an additional charge effecting motorcycles manufactured before 2007,
which does not effect those living in London initially, but those from outside but aim to eventually extend to anywhere inside the M25 and will effect anyone living in London, will make it expensive to own a pre 07 bike for Londoners in 7 years.

London ultra low emission zone approved | MCN

I'm obviously not keeping up to date with these things...

  2. Sounds like bull to me. Germany aren't in any hurry to crippled their auto industry and give those around them a leg up in the process. Also, the M25 is a good 10 to 15 miles outside of London in most places so it's outside of their remit. Who the hell is going to enforce it? I probably see a police car once a week if that and I commute from Surrey into London.

  3. I suspect it would be an automatic vehicle registration camera jobby, with a pay via phone or internet.

I can't find the original post but someone official in london (perhaps Boris replacement?) had apparently stated they plan to expand it. Obviously this is a long way off for those living in London, like Chizel but It will be enforced in less than 4 years for outsiders.

I've checked my 07 blade is 3 months to old so I would have to pay if I enter the center of universe, as it affects bikes manufactured before July 07. I bought the blade to ride all over and not worry. I guess I may have got rid of it by then and I don't go into london too often. I have no plans to get rid on my 998 though.

Apparently Motorbikes are or were unpopular with the EU? or was that another part of the vote out marketing.
I think Boris was involved with the above and he was an out campaigner so I guess it would have happened regardless.

My CBR has a cat and 02 sensor as standard. I'm surprised it targets Fi bikes of similar age...
I doubt the 08/09 model is any better for emissions.

  4. They need to drastically cut the amount of vehicles and in particular vans and lorries in London. Anything that helps the air pollution is good but this is not drastic enough. The average speed in central london is about ~7-8mph! When the congestion charge was brought in the average speed went up by about 1mph and then a year or so later went back down further than where it was before. The cynical would say it's just a money maker?

The traffic tech systems queue traffic up down the main drags to try to avoid the interchanges getting overwhelmed and going into grid lock but they have already run out of room to do this so they'll have to reduce the rise in traffic.

  5. would have thought encouraging the use of motor cycles and scooters would help ease congestion and parking probs. It's all about making money

  6. Yeah completely agree, didn't mean otherwise in my post. Just that the congestion charge is not enough and as you say appears to be merely a money maker. It's crazy if motorbikes get wrapped up with this as they dont hang around in jams running their engines creating polution like the four wheeled vehicles do.

  7. 100%. Also maybe they should look at a ban on all non essential vehicals instead of picking on vans pre 2005 ( think thats the year, a mate had to sell his van cheap a year after buying it due to this) by non essential, I mean Chelsea tractors for a start There is no place for a 4x4 in London. Thought kids had to go to a school in the catchment area ( usually well within walkin distance).

  8. ...all the German brands have hybrid/electric vehicles in their ranges now....would only assume that this coverage will accelerate during the next 14 years.

Doesn't prevent them build petrol/diesels for export though.

The days of private use of non autonomous ic engined vehicles is limited IMO in most 1st world countries - I'd give them 25 years, at most. Technology (and state desire to control/manage resources/pollution) is moving too fast for it to be any other way. They'll go the same way as the horse/steam train.

  9. Tesla and other makes can do 200 mile plus range electric now - in 10 years who knows

  10. 2030? meh. get jfk on it. :upyeah:

  11. It seems to me to be another ill thought out move.............they want to avoid carbon / emissions from vehicles yet the intent seems to indicate electric vehicles will take over...........but these include the use of lithium batteries.

Lithium...............a very limited source; apparently rather dangerous because it can catch fire (or start fires); a filthy process in obtaining it with very high carbon / emissions pollution; and disposal is pretty dirty too.

  12. Time to declare war on Bolivia then ;)

  13. Plus the instant thump of torque you get from an electric motor, they're the traffic light drag champs! But yeah, batteries are coming on in quantum leaps.

  14. Apparently an Aston Martin, a project car that could do the same mileage to one charge as one tank of fuel, but that was at the legal speed limit. I think he said, when wound up it could make the same as 600bhp or more torque. While it maybe illegal to drive faster than the limit, who buys a sports car to drive slowly all the time. I can see some marketing BS happening when this kicks off properly.

The trouble is (at that time) it would not go far in sport mode and I guess it would take a while to recharge those batteries. What will happen to electric prices for cars when they become common place also?

It's perhaps to late to even ask, if the car that's already built is less environmentally damaging than replacing it with one not built yet, and how long life and disposable are batteries & how much do these weigh. I'm sure some "expert" research has been carried out which suits the outcome.

Obviously several high performance electric cars have been built (some look good) and some race in formula E. Formula E seems a bit of a pee a take, it has big backing and named drivers (hype) but it's slower than the pace of National single seaters cars which can be bought for 15> 28K second hand (obviously these need TLC and racing is not cheap but I think the high performance electric cars cost hundreds of thousands at the moment?

I'd like to see diesel buses that travel a repetitive set route replaced and perhaps some taxis. I don't think air pollution is a good thing. I do fear we will all be drones, paying high tax and with very few freedoms eventual
I guess we have no say and have to make the best of it and be glad we lived in the time of the oil burners.

  15. Solve a lot of londons problems by allowing deliveries at night. Thedrivers would prefer not dodging everyone and it would reduce traffic in the day... they won't allow it though!

As much as I love the internal combustion engine, Electric is the future. There are even a couple of electric motocross bikes entered into the Redbull straight rhythm competition this year.....

  16. if the electricity is obtained from nuclear power plants I think id rather run my vehicals on fossil fuel... If there comes a time when electricity comes from truly "green" sources I would get on board. But I cant see that happening in the near future.
all i see is a swing in how major energy company's derive their vulgar profits...
