Hello all, Just purchased a 2013 1199 abs model. First Ducati and v twin. Fireblade and r1 previous. Bike has 5k and standard. Any recommendation on mods or leave alone? Looking at getting evo tech tail tidy. Exhaust sounds nice as is but wondered if flap thing in exhaust could be disabled like std Fireblade? As I say new to Ducati. When riding along road at 40ish I think it sounds a little rattely/ tappy. Is this normal. Thanks, Paul
Hi Paul, welcome to the forum and congrats on the purchase of your 1199. It's a stunning bike as is, but if you're that way inclined and your wallet allows, then there are a ton of mods you can do. A tail tidy is a good place to start and after that it's up to you. Common mods I guess would be a set of Termi cans, carbon fibre bits to replace the plastics. You can obviously look at suspension mods etc too if you're not happy with the standard setup. This was mine shortly before I sold it, pretty standard apart from the above mentioned bits. Cracking bikes...
- Evotech tail tidy - Throttle spacer kit - Race/comfort seat - Progrips Job done! There is a fascination with removing the flapper valve, they work perfectly with it, so why would you bother? On the exhaust, only change it if you are never planning any trackdays.
Going up a tooth or two on the rear sprocket and changing the steering head angle improves the bike. It makes the 1199 almost the same as the 1299 bar the 4mm lower swing arm pivot point. Both are cheap jobs although the rear sprocket is the more noticeable.
hello. thanks for replys. Think i will just start with tail tidy. Forks revalved and swing arm pivot and stem things done by previous owner. Some sun would be nice too. Is the noise normal?
I changed the chain before it was even PDI'd (this is my second Pani) as from experience they rust quickly. Tail tidy is a must, I've changed various bits for carbon but only because I get bored on the internet sometimes! Never had a problem with the throttle play on any Pani. It's there but does no harm and do laugh at the price they charge for the kit Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Haha! You laugh at £25 for a bit of plastic that makes a difference, yet admit to buying carbon that just looks nice.... shhhhhh! Carbon is cheap, honest
Recommend a throttle spacer - did actually make a difference for me and for $30 was a cheap mod. A pair of Agip stickers are a must!
Throttle spacer is a must. The free play reminded me a slack old throttle cable from my old 1990 GSXR. The kit completely fixes it, bought mine on eBay from the USA. Comes with detailed instructions. My 1299 made all sorts of tapping noises, Ducati's (and most other V Twins) will be more 'mechanical' sounding that your previous inline 4 smooth engines.
I rode my 959 to collect my 1299 and the difference in mechanical sound was very noticeable (and I wear ear plugs)... so much so I immediately checked the oil level! You get used to it though.
Thanks RJKC600 & Jolley. I do tend to worry and hoped all was normal about the noise. Going to treat it to a EvoTech Tailtidy and rad guards ready for the sun next year. The throttle slack has not bothered me yet but only rode about 50 miles. Its not the smoothest of bikes at town speed.
It's horrible in town. A very focused bike which excels at fast road or track riding. You'll get used to it soon enough and town riding becomes some form of 'bearable'. That's what pistons the size of houses do to low RPM rideability I'm afraid.
I've gone up a tooth on my 899 and had to filter today for about 3 miles. Found it noticeably better! As above, leave the exhaust alone if you want to go anywhere near a track in the U.K.
The key is to always do wheelies , that way the revs are kept a bit higher Don't thank me, always happy to help.
The rad guards really are essential. I don't get the throttle play thing, and the exhausts are good but make track work a ball ache. I managed to pick up a Ducati performance tail tidy on eBay for £120 which was similar to evotech and I think nicer, but they are loads new! I played around with seats but prefer the height of the standard one so yeah, not much else to do to them really! This winter I'm going to try some better grips and maybe change my gearing to make it easier in town. Otherwise lots of polishing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
