  1. In a nutshell, you've told us what we all suspected, you're a willy waving, look at me, attention seeker
And I say that as a duly ordained, fully qualified internet psychobabbler

  2. Nice motor, I think we were at the track with an R8 LMS (V10)

I had an old Porsche, with rear wing. I was eating a KFC in town (I know, just wrong) a dad and son stopped and started looking, point at my car... I felt like I was naked with curtains opens and lights on < not good.

Sometimes it feels good to be noticed, other times when you are eating greasy chicken... not so much.

Round here few would pay attention, unlike where I use to live. It's quite common to see super cars here. Had a few park outside my house, and my gym car park has a selection of Ferraris, Lambos, Astons, Bentlys and the more common, expensive range rovers.

We have some kind of little Classic Aston Martin show room in town, and they work on the old ones down a side street.

When I was racing it was common to see expensive motors in the paddock.
Donnington There were some GT40 but there were people flying in by helicopter.
I think some of the lorries were worth more than some of the cars.. (British GT)

I guess when the son of Palmer is racing (F4), it's not that surprising....
I could not afford to both race and own a nice car + keep the mrs & in-laws happy.
When a 17 year olds can spend 200K+ a season racing... I obviously did not pay enough attention at school.

I was parked not far from a F40 and Porsche 918 Spyder at Brands, was more concerned about my Gazebo taking off.

Quite a few of the racers I know drive Mclarens, Ferraris and one has an Ascari as well.
These were the guys that usually cause the (race) incidents too... but at least they paid for the damage. Part the reason I stopped. Cheque book racing!

  3. Totally agree, sometimes its nice, but it does become tiring after owning the car for a long time, when I have got used to it and just see it as my daily driver. Of all the cars I have owned, for some reason, an Audi draws the most attention..... Go figure ??

  7. My main worry with a nice old supercar is scumbags damaging or nicking it

  8. very quiet where I live, been good so far, but anyhow, that's what insurance is for eh..

  9. Agree brad.. a couple from the gym. In my old town someone would have scratched them but certain places round here less likely.

Rather use them round the track than ware those parts in traffic..

If singles seater costs what it does I dread to think what it cost to race one of them. Amazing though, British GT (pro class) lemans run teams and cars were 1sec faster a lap than f4 at donnington full circuit. I guess they have higher top speed and on a flowing track the lack of areo is not such an issue.. cadwell they'd be well off... but international bigger (wider) circuits must be fun with a bunch of them side by side but then I'd rather be in a suitable single seater an F1 Car with a V10.

  10. I think part of the appeal of the R8 is its a 'working class supercar' being an Audi. Ask most, and they will think its costs about £50k new. 'Just a big TT, right?'

  11. Which is one reason I went for the 911 rather than the Lambo Gallardo I was originally planning on getting. To the untrained eye, all Porsches look alike, so a £50k 997 turbo doesnt look that different from a £1500 Boxster or even a base model 996 Carrera. So it lives on my driveway and its as if the locals havent even noticed it. Whereas something like bright green Gallardo just isnt so stuble and was asking for trouble.

When im out & about though, it does seem to get a lot of attention from 2 kinds of people. Firstly the blokes who a 911 turbo was always their dream car. And secondly, women who think it looks awesome but have absolutely no idea what make of car it is.

  12. I had an order in for the new R8 back when it first came out, and ended up cancelling the order as I just couldn't deal with the attention it would get (and would've been scraping to afford it too)
R8's tend to get much less 'he's a twat' style comments than a Lamborghini or a Ferrari, but they still don't exactly fly under the radar.
Somedays I wish I went ahead with buying one, but then other days I'm glad I didn't
Audi did lend me one earlier this year for a week to try and tempt me back into ordering one whilst my current RS4 was in for Service, but after only having it for an hour or so, I hit a blimmin deer, so that was the end of that loan :)
Funnily enough, they've not loaned me a decent car since 10599164_10156459650220529_6265217655841817957_n.jpg

  13. When I ordered (and then cancelled, as post above) a V10+ last year, I told the wife it was £70k and she didn't think any differently ;)
Plus, she would be less worried that I'd run off with a 21year old blonde bird than if I had a Ferrari or Lamborghini

  16. My mums best friend is talking of selling their R8 to buy a Lamborghini and I always joked I wanted first refusal when they got in 2009 (I think). I'd be stretching to buy it now but I worry that I'd just end up not usuing it like most cars I've owned and I should really be paying my mortgage off rather than buying cars. Bikes seem cheap in comparison to cars so that's justification for me in my head

  17. Life's too short for just bricks and mortar...Buy ya mums mates Audi. The mortgage can wait..... That's the trouble with our UK mentality on mortgages, we are all obsessed with paying them off but miss out on things while we are doing so, and by the time its paid, are too old to fully enjoy the things we wanted. Only IMO you understand, and I ain't got no mortgage so easy for me to say..... ;)

"You can sleep in your car, but you can't race your house"

  19. I actually agree with you mate. But I truly hate my job and my end game is to move to Spain for a better quality of life as my Mrs is Spanish and I need our uk house paid for to generate the cash. I'm 32 now and aim is to be paid up by 40. I'm 3 years in to our mortgage and just over half paid off so tracking well. Putting £40k into a R8 would put that back a few years and I don't think it'd be a good sacrifice. A 1098R on the other hand is worth a extra year on my mortgage lol

  20. By sheer coincidence, once I retire a few years from now, its Catalan we are moving to, Tarragona area is where we are looking, close enough to spend my remaining days riding the socks off a bike round the Pyrenees, and the rest of the time drinking wine :Wacky:
