If you think by opting for a speed awareness course instead of the points believing that this won't effect the cost of your insurance then think again, insurance companies are now asking just that, have you done one, even though according to the police it's no longer classified as an offence they now require you to declare this, and we all know why so they can increase your premium. Beware folks!
The insurance company's take appears to be "speeding is speeding", regardless of whether you get points or a course. That makes sense, but it doesn't take into account the fact that a speed awareness course has the potential to make you a safer driver. Of course, you cannot prove the potential unless you have no insurance claims and no traffic convictions afterwards. So the answer is, as always, don't get caught and don't be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Most insurance companies won't (or didn't) penalise you for minor speeding incidents even though you had to declare them. I fear this is about to change, and that's bad news for me, cos my license is in tatters:frown:
Gonna get flamed but there are things you do not disclose at all, some unless specifically asked and rest always.
Never been asked but I do have to send a photo copy of my licence every time I renew my insurance. Steve
It's a joke, I could run a dozen off but they insist , if not returned within 2 weeks my insurance is canceled. It gives them a get out if I send an old copy and it isn't a true record. Steve
MCE three years on the trot. Steve The probably can't believe I have no previous convictions at my age.
Not a new thing. Speed awarness and its point really? it still affect insurance the same - FightBack Forums
Maybe not new but insurance companies are now more likely to take this into account when considering the cost of your insurance, see BBC report 18/11/12 BBC News - Higher premiums for speed awareness courses
Renewed with Swinton the other day and they were over £100 cheaper than the challengers. Makes a refreshing change, not having to shop around endlessly. No question of Speed Awareness Course either.
Well I'm booked in for one early Jan as my previous date was cancelled due to the flooding in our area ! I hope it proves to be interesting.
Insurance companies are there to make money and profit.........all they want to know is what the risk you will be to them not making money, the more potential for risk the more they will charge you ......simples!
I was using Footman James, but have now switched to Bike Team (Equity Red Star).........can't moan......................(or not yet anyway) AL.
