I guess I've got carried away somewhat... My Italiano styled workshop nears completion and my Son came to visit over Xmas. Showing him my work he said Dad it's stunning, but how are you going to have enough room to work on both sides of your bikes at the same time? I've hand built units on both sides which allows a couple of bikes in one behind the other down the middle of the shop but working on one will be very difficult.. With a chronic back prob too it's gonna be nigh impossible.. So now it's either an extension or another idea... One I've thought of is building a hoist that I can put the bike on which can slide sideways allowing me to move the bike sideways to gain access .... Bollocks and all that... Busy new year beckons ...
Lift the units from one side on top of the units on the other side, double decker fashion. Hey presto, more floor space.
"Jump on board, jump on board, jump on board we're the double Deckers " if your young you will have no idea where that comes from.....That's a very clever idea Robarano, smart Alec .. X
Yes I could fit one in but there's no way I would get to both sides.. I could modify one so I could jack it up and then slide it sideways depending on which side I need work on... Problem when you've limited space..
I guess it comes from 25years of workshop management. Get it all up and out of the way. One of my bike friends has the opposite idea of how to work in his garage. Chuck it all of the floor in a random fashion until you can no longer see the floor and are tripping over everything.
You should be able to do most things from just one side, I'm guessing you can push the rolling chassis in/out of the space to turn it to the other side when needed and/or just push it outside when you need full access. Shouldn't be a massive problem TBH.
