Stainless Steel Clutch Springs...

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Nelson, Nov 24, 2012.

  1. I've recently received a nice new set and guess what...?
The clutch won't work with them fitted...

I had this palava with my old 748R! Is there a set that is guaranteed to work?
    Right height and tension?

  2. yes the original non bling ones...................................

  3. Ok...In monosyllabic speak.... Any Stain less set that will work....

  4. Where did you get them from? Have you compared them to the old ones, maybe a teckmikle measure with a pair of Verynears?

  5. They came from... Ducati Dry Clutch Springs & Retainer (Alloy) | eBay

They're shorter than the stockers that's for sure.

  6. Cranker has sound advice but failing this and depending how you can tolerate a compromise/lack of 'clean' appearance, there is a solution but will wait for the expert advice before pm-ing if necessary N.

  7. Bling Shite.......................and why would anyone need them 10% stiffer (great technical term). Best try a reputable ducati specialist (jhp, nelly etc) Nelson. You know you can run on four springs as well...........saves buying a other duff set seeing as you only want one.

  8. Think you have probably over tightened the allen screws. Try slackening them back a few turns to see if the clutch will work then. THe only reason those wont work is if the coils have become bound . IE not allowed enough movement.

  9. Cobblers. You cannot just undo the cap heads a bit! A total recipe for disaster.....................And Nelson has had enough disasters just clening the damn thing never mind riding with loose clitch springs. Did you buy the starfish effort plate too Nelson?

To get you out and about just try the four spring trick. Looks pretty snazzy too.

  10. It could be that retainer plate that's causing the problem. Try your original spring caps with the springs. The installed height is different on the slipper pressure plate and if the caps are too shallow you get the springs going coil bound

  11. If the allen bolts were threaded all the way down you would be able to tighten them till they were spring bound. Which is the only way they clutch wouldnt work . By loosening them you will find the right length of bolt. So not cobblers at all just some know what they are doing whilst others Obviously dont.

  12. Yup - bought the set, and yes it's bling, but I like it.

I have tried the plate with the stock springs and it works fine.
Just the spring and plate together produces a rock hard lever!

  13. Do the new springs have more coils than the stock springs? Would explain the coil-binding.... +1 on not running around with the bolts half-undone! :)

  14. I can feel a ban coming on again for me. Some people with EFF all knowledge spout sh*t constantly. There we go, another weeks worth of putting up with idiots vented. Cap head length my arse...........................clueless

  15. Tried the springs with the stock caps, no good even with 4.
    Darn it!

  16. 470four found shiny ones that work, maybe best to cut you loses and move on to those. You'll be out soon riding around again (or sinking in this weather). I hope you get it sorted soon.

  17. No 1/2 undone screws here!

  18. Who mentioned the Cap head length . I mentioned that the length of the thread may have coil bound the spring . Your the EFF no nothing that spouts shit. You must be well used to putting up with idiots tho.

  19. Did I say ride around like that . OR . Did I say try it to see if the spring was coil bound FFS.
