Mines had a leak since i got my 748 and the alternator paint is very bubbly around that area a respray job when it comes off, but its time to fix the leak. I would like to keep the original slave and fit a new kit, having been looking at the kits Genuine Ducati Clutch Slave Cylinder Repair Kit 19590023B 748 916 996 SS Monster Looks like a pair of pliers will pull it out but whats the best way for fitting the new kit is it a bit of red grease (which i use on brake pistons) and a socket and tap it in.
^ the seal pops both out and in quite easily, sometimes the problem is that the slave seal has popped out all on its own. Red brake grease is good.
Annoyingly, nobody seems to be advertising them any more, but it was possible to buy a superior "Quad-ring" or "X-ring" seal for the OEM slave cylinder, which provided a long-term fix to leakage (no change in action, obviously), or at least it did for me. It's a much cheaper fix than a complete new piston and (potentially duff) OEM seal or an after-market slave. If you search for Q4210-560ND you will find some mention of this on the web, but I don't see a supplier, although they were once available from Pro-Twins: ducatipaso.org • View topic - solution for clutch slave cylinder oil leak Another clue: X-Rings (Quad Rings) | Eastern Seals (UK) Ltd Perhaps something for someone enterprising like Exige to look into?
I remember talk of those on the old Yahoo SS group. Didn't Evoluzione also make an aftermarket piston with two seals? My recollection is a little hazy.
I have an Evoluzione slave cylinder on my 916 which has been faultless in 17/18 years. It has a good reduction in pull (similar to the Oberon that I have on the Monster) it also has a bearing in the end of the piston, supposedly to prevent it being drilled if the rod spins with the clutch? and the clutch fluid stays clean. Shame Evoluzione stopped trading so you can't get them anymore...
As far as I know, I've never sold him anything and he's never asked to buy. The reputation of a company is everything, which is why I'll always ensure that the right thing is done if there is a problem, and can be evidenced by people on here as well. So no, I have no idea what his problem is.
Well, I'm a happy customer and you often give helpful advice on here. That's why I was so surprised there seems to be an issue.
I was really surprised to learn that Evoluzione had ceased trading. They had a range of great products at reasonable prices. Shame they're gone...
If my memory hasn't let me down, Evoluzione was a 1 man business and ill health forced him to retire. I still have an early, long clutch rod slave in black somewhere in my spares box. Andy
another option is to use an "X" ring seal http://ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/quad-x-ring-seal-on-clutch-slave-cylinder.41547/ Never fitted one myself and yet to check if correct sizes are still available, but "Quad-Rings" are available from many sources.
There are all sorts of reasons why companies cease trading I guess. I'm surprised to hear it was a one man band but that would certainly explain the sudden disappearance. Sad...
