If you want the forces not to pay tax where do you stop, the police in ni (ruc ) sustained terrible losses over here, what about the ni fire service , we fought fires , bombs , shoveled bodies and had to deal with horrendous terrorist related incidents, iv mates couldn't complete their service as a result. Iv a lot of respect for the forces and in an ideal world every member should be millionaires.
Ok guys, I guess we all have an opinion, I put this on here to highlight a potential benefit which may have had a knock on effect for other services although likely not with the way the Govt is. However, in hindsight and reading some of the comments perhaps I shouldn't have put the petition on the Forum, thanks for the input, it has been an education. BTW, we probably all and myself included have friends who have been killed, maimed and lost limbs etc like so many other servicemen, police, fire, ambulance services etc. Cheers Jim
I disagree. I am grateful you did post -it has promoted balanced discussion and elicited opinions. That activity in itself may well aid or shape an future activity and therefore be of benefit.
I was going to post something but it would have ended up reading just like TT600's post. I can hardly believe that TT600 and 2Squeezy are the same guy
May I mention the petition currently underway about the proposed state visit of President Trump, which is an example of a carefully worded, thought-through petition; it may actually have some effect. It acknowledges how essential it is for the UK government to have dealings with the USA President, which may properly include him coming to the UK in person. This practical necessity is distinguished from inviting him to a formal, celebratory state visit which would be wholly unnecessary, inappropriate, and degrading to our own head of state. I have signed this one myself. It is just a pity, in my view, that such a large proportion of petitions are rubbish, which detracts from the force of the few meaningful ones.
Peter, are there any initiatives currently under way to ensure that people are thinking the right way about issues? As a socialist, you will of course realise just how important it is to have everyone walking and talking in-step, and to have them all thinking correctly. Feel free to include the phrase "muddy thinking" as you delicately side-step around the question on your way to answering a different question.
Have to say that I wholeheartedly agree with what you say. I will not sign that petition, however, as I feel that as the UK has a "special relationship", whatever that might be, with the US then the US president should visit the UK with all the pomp and ceremony that go with such a visit.
