Top Gear - Take 2

  1. A massive improvement now the irritating ginger twonk is gone... But that's not saying much. My biggest problem with it is that it is now obviously scripted - OK, it was always scripted, but Hammond, May and Clarkson always made it at least look spontaneous. And the other problem is the things that they do - I find myself continually asking "why?". What is the point of freewheeling a supercar down a mountain road? It just doesn't achieve anything. Better, but still not good enough...

  2. its still light years ahead of the current clarkson crap.

  3. They did towards the latter part of their part on TG, watching the earlier stuff on Dave some of it was very wooden. It does seem slightly unfair to compare the finished article with a work in progress.

  4. It used to be a car-themed comedy gang show but now its just a car show. OK if you like cars but if you're not fussed there's no point watching. You didn't have to like cars to enjoy the old show.
The other thing that's lacking is the hidden professional background of the old three. Clarkson and May are both journalists and Clarkson is a proper time-served hack who has a nose for finding and telling a story with humour and economy which you just can't fake. Hammond has a background in radio and TV presenting and he is a programme and book writer of considerable output. Between them there was a professional background weight is glaringly lacking in the new presenter line-up and their scriptwriters.

I don't dislike any of the new presenters but I struggle to see an episode through to the end. They just haven't the spark to hold my interest.

  5. It's at least watchable now!, hopefully they get some continuity with the presenters and they should settle down.

The Grand Tour has just gone too far over the top (just because the can it seems), shame really as I had high hopes for that series..

I watch Top Gear on a Monday night with my 10 year old son, he seems to enjoy it so all's good!.

  6. i struggle with this form of dumbed down tv. I wanted to find out more on the newly arrived Alfa Romeo Giulia, but the clown driving it was more intent on crashing it through a polystyrene wall!
I'm off now to catch up on the one show I've recorded in the week ;)

  7. I quite enjoyed Grand Tour, although I did miss parts of TG that GT could not use, but I guess GT was restricted to what they could show :(
TG is better with out Evens for sure but the 3 do not gel in a way I see Clarkson and Co do, there is not that instant connection that is off the cuff, as the 3 in top gear it all seems written and rehearsed, and acting.

  8. One of the biggest gripes with The Grand Tour was the swearing.

I watch it with my son and I'm under no illusion he will hear all sorts at school but not the best watching a car show.

Didn't seem any need for it an another "just because we can" thing..

  9. I think original TG hit a bit of a purple patch a few seasons from the end. It became a bit too tedious and over played to get a few laughs eventually.
The Grand Tour...... I can take it or leave it really. Overhyped to the hilt. Think they all believed they were the next coming and that the world could not live without them. But to be honest I think we can. And I do find the Hammond fella quite irritating now
Latest TG , I think has potential minus Evans and especially Eddie Jordan , ah , and that Schmitz woman.

  10. Really surprised that top gear seems to be 7 years past it's sell by date and Clarkson and his mates aren't actually that funny.
    Who'd have thought it.

  14. Just watched it for the first time in years, I was about to say never again until the end when they said, next week we will be testing the Ducati 1299 Superlegera so it looks like I'll be watching one more time.

  15. Great news on the Superleggera. I can remember bikes used as comparisons on old TG, but not reviews. :upyeah:

I'm really impressed by Matt LeBlanc in this 2nd series. He seems genuinely enthusiastic.

Good to see the guest in the fast car involved more
I enjoyed Sabine this time too

  17. I still can't get away with her mind. She seems to be forcing it a bit. But it's a minor gripe.

  18. I think the numbers will jump a bit with the sl being on there...
