I came into biking after retiring from skydiving, skydivers are a tight knit bunch for obvious reasons and reliant on each other for safety, awareness and camaraderie. Yesterday during my jaunt from Newcastle upon Tyne to Newcastle under Lyme I stopped off for breakfast in Darlington, I was followed into McDs by a chap riding a fazer, we exchanged pleasantries ordered, sat together and chatted for 20mins, I don't know his name, we'll never meet again but for 20 mins we were mates, put a great big smile on me face! So to the southern born ex Cummins blood biker, thanks for making my day
After talking to Carr01 at Matlock Bath this morning I sat down with a lad from Litchfield who was riding a loverly 996, if it wasn't for my bike I doubt I would ever make conversation with a stranger. Steve
May I ask a question @Nigel Machin ? I know nothing about skydiving, please forgive my ignorance. Bikers wear leather suits, which are ideal for moving through the air at 100 mph plus, especially if they include body protectors in case of knocks. Yet whenever I see pictures of skydivers they are always wearing thin, flapping cloth garments which do not look as though they provide any protection. My question is: why don't skydivers wear leathers? Is there some good reason why not, of which I am unaware?
I would have thought the leather of a bikers suit is to provide abrasion protection in the event of skidding along the tarmac. No suit in the world is going to protect a skydiver from slamming into the ground at 90 degrees from 150mph.
Hi Pete, skydivers generally wear a jumpsuit of sorts which affords abrasion resistance whilst remaining flexible, flexibility is key and dependent on the discipline, formation skydiving, head up or head down, the suit material offers different points of resistance to create drag and lift. Most suits are actually very durable and high resistance areas are canvas like. Hope that helps. Nige
Not if they're entry level RST leathers. You'll die looking like a cheapskate. Go out in style with top-end Dainese or Hideout bespoke and die like a dude.
