Saw this on.......er, you've guessed it, Ebay. BLANK 2017 NEW SHAPE ERROR COIN 2016 DATED ONE POUND £1 No Queen's Effigy Head | eBay Now I'm sure no one on here would be silly enough to pay loads-a-money for this tampered-with new £1 coin but some mug has already bid £250 for it. The dodgy con artist has punched out the centre, ground and polished off the queen's head and then pressed it back in again. Poor effort too. In 1st pic, you can see where the inner doesn't now match the thickness of the outer. In 2nd pic, not only is the outer deformed during the pressing process (look at the area next to the "O" in "ONE"), but also the images are out of rotational allignment. So, warn all your elderly acquaintences!
'Why change' we said. 'So they cant be faked' they said. Both fivers and pound coins already in circulation...
They said the same about chip and pin, internet banking and contactless cards. "Don't worry, they are all safe as they are new technology" I was sold a fake ducati once, dammed thing worked every day with no problems, damm these faking rascals
All the current issued batch of the "new" pound coin were minted in 2016 so bear the date 2016 so is still only worth £1 although momentarily it was worth a little more in Euros yesterday. Andy
