The 853 is alive!!

  1. Couldn't wait any longer so I had the day off work to finish a couple of electrical jobs on the bike after swapping engines at the weekend, now the 748 is an 853 with gas flowed heads, STM slipper clutch, JHP chip and while i was at it fitted some nice red silicone hoses. A lot of preliminary work had been done beforehand such as the swing arm bolt removal which took most of a day with a big hammer and a blow lamp so that the change over went as smooth as possible. She started first touch and the exhaust sound is noticeably deeper, a bit to icy around here to take her for a run but cant wait for the first experience, hope I notice a difference.
Just got to book her in at Cornerspeed to let Neil do some fine adjustments and I'll be a happy bunny.

  5. Thread needs pics! I'm looking to buy a 748 very soonish and maybe later down the road convert to a 853 but using the kit u can buy of the shelf.

  6. Defo need pics its the law :)

  7. Yep need photos.

Did you buy a ready built engine or build it yourself?

  8. I had been looking to upgrade my engine for a year or so, looking for pistons and barrels, checking different forums for pros and cons and then a fully built engine came up on the dreaded E-Bay, more than I wanted to pay but with offers, so I watched it for a month and it had no offers and was re-listed again so I made a cheeky offer which was accepted, ( less than the barrels and pistons would cost new) It was built by JHP has gas flowed heads ally flywheel and STM slipper fitted so all in all I'm very pleased and I still have my original engine for spares if needed.
I will post a few pics at the weekend but it dosen't look any different to before.

  11. Does the new engine have 916 barrels and pistons or a Pistal kit? Any ideas as I am also weighing up both options just now.

    Cheers

  12. Pistals are the way to go. 916 pistons are a fair bit heavier and should have crank balanced. The extra cost of the pistons outweighs the bottom end work. I'd guess JHP would have used Pistals.

  13. [/U]
I have the build invoice from JHP and it says 916 barrels with Jhp pistons, the 853 pistons are different to the 916.
